How Long would you be willing to wait for a highly individualized ME3?

With the (assumed) shrugging off of the council decision in ME1, most likely to prevent having to drastically alter the story for whichever path you chose, the choose your own adventure premise of ME seems to be wearing a bit thin. I can understand herding us into one path to lead up to ME3, but seeing as it's the last game in the trilogy, I would hope bioware would craft a truly unique game dependant on which paths you chose in the first two games. After all, it would be disapointing if all the possible story permutations ended up the same in the end, or made little difference to the overarching plot. Unrealistic as it is, [I doubt bioware would ever write more than one "plot" for ME3] I'd be willing to wait twice the developmental period for a more individualized experience in the third game. Thoughts? [and obviously this is just speculation. ME2 might surprise me]

i'll wait 3 years for a personal story.

but i'll gladly wait 5-7 years if it means that squad armor will have meaningful customization on par with shep and that we get a good variety of unique and visually customizable weapons.

WTF are you talking about? Please, provide some evidence suggesting that Bioware has forsaken our choices regarding the Council.

Bioware has gone over this in some articles and interviews, ME3 will be smaller than ME2 content wise and will take less time to develop than ME2.  I bet we'll see it by years end in 2011, maybe early 2012.

@Naltair: Well in one of the trailer videos Jacob comments "new leaders same bull****". It's certainly not a lot to go off of, but it got me thinking.

Right, because that's indicative of a completely linear story line and forsaken choices.  Obviously it couldn't have possibly been that that particular playthrough decided to remove the old Council or an updated human added council.

Either way, you have a handful of humans who just inherited full reign over a GALAXY, or you have one human who is still part of a group of FOUR with obvious seniority.

It's not too far fetched to believe that Jacob's comment would be true.

It's not as if changes in Government are always tea parties and a round of cricket. See: Any history book.

Touche. But if it wouldn't make much of a difference, then why give us the choice in the first place?

I doubt that they will completely forsake our choices in ME1. Obviously the changes will be slightly obvious but you cant expect a drastic change.

Well, and really, it's just Jacob's perspective. He's not part of the Citadel Council, he's not involved in politics.

I'm pretty sure Pallin and the Volus and Elcor Ambassadors and the Asari, Salarians and particularly the Turians on the Citadel is saying something very different.

But really, the Citadel is the only place this choice will become dramatically apparent more than likely. Much like Tuchanka is probably the only place the decision involving Wrex will be apparent. And really, I'm willing to bet the choice involving Ashley and Kaidan will affect things.

But really, I'm expecting A LOT more of this in ME3. I think Wrex will become a more prominent character, you'll probably be back, much more heavily involved with the Citadel Council after your detour with Cerberus... it's when everything will be coming back and be that much more prominent in the storyline.

1. never heard of anything saying ME3 will be smaller. one ces interview had them lightly discuss ME3 and mentioned no such thing, but w/e; disappointing to have my expactations lowered about the third before ive even played the second.

2. the point of this thread is to say how long one be willing to wait, not to try and make an informed hypothesis about it. im not guessing, im just saying how long i could reasonably stand to wait.

It's only been two years that kind of government shift won't create some Empire overnight, Council space is huge and vast and comprises trillions of lives and multiple governments.  It's a super UN, and has wide authority but each of the member governments maintain their soverignty and so such a complex politcal landscape will not be conducive to quick and easy change.

But that does not nullify your choices it just means your choices are at play in a larger backdrop of a galactic community.

Clearly choices made in ME1 will still be relevant to ME2, but most of them will likely not interfere too much with the main story bioware has established, as it has to lead on to ME3 (Unless you die :P). But I was referring to a ME3 with a truly altered main quest based on actions from previous games. Obviously not the most likely of things, but there's been more far fetched threads on these forums.

Casey Hudson has stated and inferred there could be wildly different resolutions to how the story ends in ME3.

Let me find the article.

From the article:

That actually will be our goal with the whole trilogy. To take all of the things you've done in Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 and then just let it go. Let it diverge into wildly different conclusions. That's the real fun of having played Mass Effect 1 and 2 and then going into the third one will be that you've set all of these things in motion and now we can let them diverge. I'm not worried that people will play it and think 'Oh well I missed all of this content that would have been different if I had made other choices' because what that does is make you interested in replaying it. The replay value of Mass Effect 1 was huge, but Mass Effect 2 is much more so and I think it just continues into the conclusion of the trilogy."

The Games TM review confirmed that your choices will affect only minor things like dialogue changes or ME1 person replaces X person

It kind of sucks but I think It is to at least give us the illusion that we are in some way shaping the outcomes of the game.  It works pretty well...until that second and third playthrough when u realize nothings changed except for a few conversation lines and maybe a special cutscence here or there (which are still pretty cool though).

I for one am still waiting for that Rachni Queen that I spared in ME1 to come back in ME3 and destroy for me...one can hope.
