Really no co-op option with all the networks in place with Xbox360 Live and PS3 online. Obviously the PC side would be easy. So really? Why no co-op?:?

Not as easy as you think. Co-op isn't a simple matter of saying "BAM NETWORKING."

Err how many Co-op rpgs do you see? How would you handle quests in an rpg like Dragon age? how would you handle dialogue, or storyline.

The only ones i can think of were made with multiplayer in mind from the beginning. [Diablo, DnD Heroes].

You can't just slap another player onto the screen.

Well, if you really wanted to know how to do multiplayer support in the successor to Baldur's Gate...

... anyone?

They have stated since the beginning that Dragon Age would be a Singleplayer game. I dont see Co-Op even being possible with this game. It makes me wonder why so many ask why theres no multiplayer in this game, yet have never questioned Elder Scrolls or the recent Fallout 3.

RPGs typically aren't Co-Op. The few that have had multiplayer capabilities are limited. In final fantasy 6/3(US) you could have a friend control 2 guys in combat. Player 1 still did everything else. Most people are going to want to play their own game rather than just tag along and cast spells.

It isn't like linear game play in FPS where you follow a bunch of objectives. There is a lot of choices and exploring to be done.

Easy technically maybe, but there is more work involved in implementing multiplayer capability than you first think.

Why not?

Or simply let them take one of the side characters, like alistair or morrigan. You the player upgrade their stats and skills and equip them anyway, just let them do those things.

Would it be fun? meh probably not as much with the whole "player 1 has paused the game" every few seconds during battle. But it would still be enjoyable as an option, it wouldent be all that serious, just something you and your buddy can do. No match making/servers.

Anyway I KNOW it would add some gameplay at least for me, two of my friends where psyched for this game (having played NWN2 and some other game that escapes me) but when they found out no co-op at all they decided not to buy.

Even in its simplest of forms (let them control one or more person in your party) it could be fun.

For the first 5 minutes until they realise that the majority of the game consists of listening to dialogue and they can't have any impact upon that but just get to sit out during all conversations.

Co-op for a game like this looks like it'd work well on paper, but in practice it isn't that fun - one person basically drives the car while the other is in the passenger's seat; at least that's how it felt in BG2.

Then all i have to say is shame on your friends. As i said in my post above they said this game would not have multiplayer since the beginning. Also as others have said it may sound fun but in the reality of it, it would certainly not be fun for the second player. Where the main player would control everything, from dialog, to quests. If they want Co-Op RPG id suggest Borderlands or the Marvel Ultimate Alliance series. Both excellect games in my opinion.

We still managed to have fun with it in I belive Never winter nights.

While playing as a companion would work I suppose they could have their own charater (without any story items) join you, when your talking to people they could run around and if there is a diolouge cinimatic they would lose control and have to watch the cinimatic with you.

It doesnot really matter if its unbalanced or there are exploits because come on they can use the toolset to cheat anyway.

NWN is a completley different game, and it was created with multiplayer in mind. It had a lot of heavy underlying systems [looting, quests levelling] that were based on multiplayer play.

Here not only will the main player be detached from the strategy behind controlling the party but their friends won't be able to do much during most of the experience.

For my money the best co-op fun to be had is still Icewind Dale 2. There's not so much emphasis on talking about what you're going to do, and more on fighting off hordes of gippers.

Because every effing game doesn't need effing multiplayer.

That's the biggest crutch game devs use now is basically making their game a bunch of multiplayer maps then slapping some crappy singl player campaign on at the end and saying its single and multiplayer.

BAM networking - ROFL

Seriously yes, I understand it would involve a great deal of coding and work on BioWares part, but I 'm sorry, it's what they get paid to do. Create a product that consumers would like to buy and play.

I'm just saying, with today's gaming generation the name of the game is mutliplayer and people interacting with each other. It's why 360 and PS3 are so popular because you can play with your friends.

As far as how they would do it, yes I would set it up as like BG, where the story line would be cut scenes, and when player 1 cuts to them, player 2 would still walk around and interact, but they would be able to hear the conversation so they're kept up to speed on the story.

All I'm saying, is that games are more fun with friends.

Every game is not about multiplayer no matter how loud that group is.

I will on Tues, and just to let you know Archangel, every voice is in a group and those groups are mixed with other groups and part of those groups are part of their own groups. We're all the same people, just wanting to play a game. Don't be so pessimistic and trying to single out people for making suggestions. in short, Flame on troll, flame on.

I must say. It would be nice if they add this eventually, in a DLC or patch, expanion whatever... They are, after all, making a MMORPG based on teamplay which handles quests and important key scenarios rather well. (People take turns on when they speak and such).

It could be possible.
