The only title I could think of for this was "Arena" - but that might be a bad representation of what I have in mind.
When I played Origins, I didn't actually reach the end until my 3rd character. The reason for this is that I didn't really get an idea of how my class would play until I tried them all. I started with a Warrior, thinking it would be the easiest and not wanting to mess around too much with magic or rogues. It wasn't until I was in Lothering (a good 6+ hours into the game, I'm a completionist) that I really got a full feel for how the Warrior played, and I decided to reroll as another class.
I went for the mage, and the exact same thing happened. I didn't really enjoy the combat. Many hours later (this time I got as far as The Fade, Circle Tower was my first destination after Lothering) I realized that I didn't quite like that class either. So that left me with the rogue. And with that character I completed the game.
My suggestion here is a kind of tutorial game mode, similar to what The Witcher 2 did (hence why the name I have in mind is 'Arena'). Witcher 2 had no classes, so the entire purpose of that tutorial was to get people used to the UI and combat. (Of which it did very poorly I might add, but the idea was right).
The only enjoyable part of rerolling all those times was getting to try out different origin stories. But seeing how Inquisition has no playable origin stories, my request for BioWare is to include a mini game mode that allows us to select a pre-determined build of a character from all 3 classes. I'd like to take a few minutes to try out the combat from all 3 classes before making my actual character.
In RPGs, whether they be open world or story based, everything is most magical the first time the player sees it. The first time I played Oblivion or Skyrim I was amazed by the scope of the world. The first time I played Mass Effect 2 the story was so gripping and exciting it was like watching my favorite season of 24, just with a interactive plot.
When you go through the beginning of a game multiple times to get your character "just right" it takes away from the magic of either the world or the story, and seeing how DAI has elements of open world and is very story heavy, I want to make sure I get my character to that "just right" stage before actually diving in.
All I'm asking for here is a way for us to test out the combat of all classes before moving on to the actual game. I hope that BioWare devs take a look at this suggestion and do what they can with it. I'm also curious as to whether or not I'm the only one with experiences of rerolling, and wonder if others think my idea is a good one.
