Just a crackpot theory, but I could see it happening.

It's also possible the Inqusitor is the sole survivor because the Inquisitor gets bailed out by Flemeth as well.

Well its definitely in Bioware's play book. See KOTOR.esper wrote...
I hope not, I would rather that the important aspects of the pasts of the main characters are explained when we select said character and that they pull no twist about our self identity.
Not really, by the end of the book there's a cliffhanger and unanswered questions, we're not really sure about what he is (it's left something of a mystery). I loved the book Asunder and would recommend it.Zazzerka wrote...
And now Cole is spoiled for me. Goddamn it. That's what I get for joining the Dragon Age party many years too late.
KotOR's twist didn't necessarily affect the PC's self-identity, though.Lord Aesir wrote...

The spirit thing can work if the PC doesn't know he's a spirit. If the PC does know he's a spirit, then the player also needs to know.
What we absolutely cannot have is a situation like KotOR2 where the PC knows a great many relevant things that are kept hidden from the player.

I know, I just hope that they doesn't do it. As Sylvius the Mad said it can work, however I do think that it would be a bad twist because why would our Inqusitor be the only sane one (well potentially sane one)? I haven't read Asunder, but Cole didn't sound... sane. And Justice knew what he was and even then I would rather call him stable than human.
So the only way it could work would be if our PC was forced to act bizarelly at some point because else it would feel like plot armour on our sanity. (I know we can create insane character, but this would be a forced difference from a human).
....
Perhaps if we were a Pride demon (or maybe desire), they are suppossed to be acting almost human.
