i expect something like this. the player being a spirit would make the origin stories kind of pointless, atleast per race.Lord Aesir wrote...

It's also possible the Inqusitor is the sole survivor because the Inquisitor gets bailed out by Flemeth as well.
What if the Inquisitor... Is a spirit?

Did these spirits come from aliens transported to Thedas in DC-8s?septembervirgin wrote...
Every person in Thedas is possessed. That's what special abilities are: spirits acting through the mindless bodies of Thedosians.
Yes. Grip the phylacteries in your hands and tell me about your past life as an Arcane Warrior.

Well, technically Wynne was an abomination (her lifespan was extended by a Fade Spirit), and she was probably the most balanced party member of Origins, after the dog.esper wrote...
I know, I just hope that they doesn't do it. As Sylvius the Mad said it can work, however I do think that it would be a bad twist because why would our Inqusitor be the only sane one (well potentially sane one)? I haven't read Asunder, but Cole didn't sound... sane. And Justice knew what he was and even then I would rather call him stable than human.
So the only way it could work would be if our PC was forced to act bizarelly at some point because else it would feel like plot armour on our sanity. (I know we can create insane character, but this would be a forced difference from a human).
....
Perhaps if we were a Pride demon (or maybe desire), they are suppossed to be acting almost human.

I agree with every word here. I've only played one game where I liked how the PC knew more than me, and that was in the game Baten Kaitos. Of course, in Baten Kaitos you are even further pulled from the PC than is common in jRPGs. It's the game that plays it pretty straight how you are a being from another world watching their actions from afar, nudging the actions of the protagonist along as if he was a bit like a puppet.Sylvius the Mad wrote...
KotOR's twist didn't necessarily affect the PC's self-identity, though.
The spirit thing can work if the PC doesn't know he's a spirit. If the PC does know he's a spirit, then the player also needs to know.
What we absolutely cannot have is a situation like KotOR2 where the PC knows a great many relevant things that are kept hidden from the player.
Damn, now I got this huge urge to replay Baten Kaitos. Such an amazing gem...
You know, I can definitely see myself sitting with friends by winter 2014 and discussing who got the Pride ending and whether that was better than my Valor ending, etc =)In Exile wrote...
Right. The spirit could think it was the original owner of the body. It could become - depending on your actions - anything by the endgame. Pride, Despair, Hope, Faith, etc. It would be a potentially very interesting mechanic

I don't see why. A spirit possessing the body of the player character would presumably have the appearance, abilities and memories of the deceased, and would most likely unaware of its true nature until a mid-to-late game revelation.LeoAdrian wrote...

If it looks like, acts like, and considers itself as whoever the Inquisitor used to be, for the player controlling it it may as well for all intents and purposes be that person. It would simply have additional abilities, and potential.

I reckon so, if the dwarf is dead or close to it.MKDAWUSS wrote...
