I'd like to customize the Bioware familiars but cannot figure out how to extract them. I tried using NWexplorer but can only find a couple of the newer ones. OldManWhistler's extraction is not HOTU let alone 1.69 compatible.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Ok, it get's a little complicated extracting the familiars.
Well, *doing* anything with them, anyway.

In Explorer, look for the blueprints in the template bif.

Just right click on each one (they are named nw_fm_*) and extract the utc to a folder.

Start with the OC, because I'm not sure all of them have been udjusted later. Work your way up to the 1.69 patch.

Now you have all of the UTCs... what do you do with them? If you don't already have the GFF Editor, grab it.
I use Roboius' modified version.

If you open each utc in there, you can edit to your heart's content, and save them to the override or roll them into an erf.

While searching these forums is often an exercise in futility, searching the Vault is never a bad first step on this kind of project:

There's a ton of other things turned up by a search for 'familiar blueprints', which is the only one I bothered trying. That link is by Old Man Whistler, so it's likely to be good, though I don't know if famliars were changed after the date last modified.

There's also this offering by the Krit, which I've used myself, and which dates to well after the last patch:

@Rolo. Thanks for the info. I missed templates.bif somehow. Also I didn't know about GFF Editor I'll look into it.

@Funky. As I mentioned in the opening post, I was using Old Man Whister's extraction but it wasn't HotU compatible which means no level 21+ familiars. I have also been using Ben/BCH/Krit's familiar fixes and am happy with them but I want to go farther than they did.

Perhaps I should submit a 1.69 version of OMH's files now that Rolo has pointed me in the right direction. . ..

I missed the reference in your OP to OMW, sorry. Krit's offering, however, just puts them in the palette, where you can do what you like to them - I see no mention of, nor do I recall, any 'fixes'. What you were asking for has already been done, if I understand your request.
