would make for some nice ambushes or a way for a spider to withdraw from a melee character's attacks.

This isn't a new thread. It's been around a while.Obviously you just weren't aware of it.
Bioware says they wil make them scary. If you don't like that, tell them.
Go watch the production videos from the Desolation of Smaug on youtube, if you haven't seen the movie. Some spiders on there are scary to some people.Peter Jackson is scared of spiders.
shrugs.

Or other dim light sources just to raise tension before the encounters like how the poem raised tension before the broodmother battle.

I'd like to see bigger spiders too.

As I pointed out.Peter Jackson didn't like watching the production videos.Smiles.
There is an old Outer Limits episode where spiders cocooned the crew of a spaceship and drank their blood. It was rather graphic.
Don't know if we';ll see anything like that in DAI.

Giant Rats aren't unrealistic. The Capybara is essentially a giant rat, fortunately it's mostly herbivorous. Tank sized spiders are unknown though, even the largest earth spiders were only about 2 feet across.Neverwinter_Knight77 wrote...
You know, if they were realistically sized, I might not have such a problem with them. For me, most of it is arachnaphobia, but part of it is how ridiculous the idea of a tank-sized spider is (giant rats are ridiculous for a similar reason).

I am quite sure that the rat I saw was about the size of 2 footballs and can probably bite your ear off easily.

I'm scared of spiders in RL but video game ones don't bother me and I'm even able to watch the movie arachnophobia. Spiders are a staple of pretty much any RPG game and I can't see that changing anytime soon.
Hated that movie.Could never watch it.
I once saw a wolf spider with oh, maybe a couple of dozen babies on it's back.Really hairy.
Something likle that could be an issue for some people.

I agree. I have a few small house spiders in my house, and I purposely let them be. They help to keep the real pests numbers down, and they're pretty much harmless. So long as one doesn't give birth to a couple dozen babies in my house (again), I got no problem knowing spiders are hanging around my house. I will admit I am nervous if I can't identify the species because it means it's a spider with an unknown threat level about its aggression and venom, but that is less a fear of spiders and more me just knowing that some spiders are much more lethal than others and to not treat them all the same. I will kill or throw outside spiders I can't identify the species, as a simple matter of caution. If it's a species I know is safe, like jumping spiders or garden spiders or wolf spiders, I leave them alone. You might think they're scary, but they think your giant ass that towers over them like a Reaper Capital Ship is more scary then they themselves could ever be. Most spiders are nervous around you and would rather stay out of your way. Why so many people fear them I have no idea.

Black widow venom is a neurotoxin. It can be fatal.
These are only the two really poisonous spiders in the US. There are other spiders just as bad if not worse in other countries.
Hope that answers anybody's questions

And for that those 2 species are on my "kill on sight" list. I said I allow safe spiders in my house, but those 2 species are not welcome as guests in my home.

Brown recluse like to hide in dark places.Good luck finding them if you can find them.
Don't want anyone bit. They cause nasty wounds.
Scary spiders in DAI ? We shall see how scary they really are.

I'm one of those weirdos that go out of their way to save and protect spiders in my house. I won't kill one, I will scoop it up and put it outside. I dislike having to kill the cute critters in game, but I've had to kill worse (like whales in WoW).
I fry them in a pan.
