Don't want anyone bit.They cause nasty wounds.

Scary spiders in DAI ? We shall see how scary they really are.

My mother was bit by one. She was fine though thanks to her having a spine of steel. She sat on the bed squeezing the wound for an hour until her foot was covered in blood from the bite, she said she was getting all the poison out. She went to the doctors the next day, they said it was indeed a recluse bite but that they didn't need to do anything because she already handled it perfectly. I thought she was just being crazy and enjoying making a bloody mess, but it turns out she was in fact doing the best thing to do with it.

I'm one of those weirdos that go out of their way to save and protect spiders in my house. I won't kill one, I
will scoop it up and put it outside. I dislike having to kill the cute critters in game, but I've had to kill worse (like whales in WoW).

Me too. I prefer taking them out if I can't tell the species, unless they force me to kill them. Unless it's a recluse or widow though, they die on the spot. But otherwise, I want to just pick it up and throw it outside.

I'm not overly fond of them myself - especially IRL - but I rarely have problems with them in games. The one real exception is System Shock 2, where they gain invisibility later on. SS2's creepy -already- before that.

A friend of mine loves RPGs, but has trouble playing a lot of them due to the spider being so prevalent because she's a total arachnophobe. Some are easily modded out, but in others the only real choice she's got is to zoom out as far as possible and let things go until they're dead.

It's not a medieval fantasy without giant spiders.

Giant spiders are fun to fight, just not getting tackled like in DA:O though.

I wouldn't mind fighting more types of giant creatures though, like a giant snake or hornet. Just for variety.

I'm mildly afraid of spiders IRL. If one is just minding its business outside I leave it alone but if it's inside it gets shown the door. If it is on me or materializes on the wall of the shower 6 inches from my nose when I open my eyes after rinsing my hair like it did last week, it's dead.

The scariest spiders we have around here are wolf spiders the body on those guys can get to around an inch across (2.5 cm.) We're not supposed to get brown recluse spiders this far north (NJ) but 2 of the pediatricians I used to work for have treated bites from them. As angrywolves said, you'll probably never see one. They like dark, quiet areas like woodpiles and boxes in attics and garages.

Black widows are confined to the Southwest. I've never seen one but I think I remember seeing that most fatalities involve a reaction to the venom in addition to the venom itself. Don't quote me on that one.

Edit:  I stand corrected.  Black widows are confined to the South.  It might be good advice just to avoid poking big scary arachnids in general just in case.

Dragon age spiders freak me out entirely. It's not that they look scary. Once they're in view I'm fine (unless they're overwhelming a party member in which case I'm annoyed.) It's the way they jump out at you. The first playthrough when I didn't know when to expect them I screamed out loud every time they showed up. If I was on console I probably would have dropped the controller.

This is probably the reason they're staying in. In a market full of jaded customers it's pretty good for a game to be able to make someone scream out loud. My thoughts, at any rate.

Black widows are also in the southeast.

There's the old 50's era movie Tarantula scientists working on a mutagen to make animals larger creates a giant spider that kills people in a town and the air force has to fire bomb it to kill it.

No air force in Dragon Age game.
lol.

I found the amount of giant spiders in the game silly anyway. They could be replaced with something new. Spiders in some areas would make sense, because it's in the lore now. Big spiders are also starting to feel a bit over-used, and they're not like dragons where you know you're going to have an at least kind of cool fight, actually spider fights have always been kind of lame to me.

Maybe, if we're lucky, they'll swap large arachnids for large insects and demons instead.

It seems a lot of Dragon Age fans are arachnophobes, judging from BSN and Tumblr.

I'm actually fond of spiders IRL but I'd like to see more variety in creatures in DA:I.

I'd love them to make the spiders the cunning creatures they are described as.

A Spider who is able to talk through telekinesis would be really cool. Build it on the Archetype of Shelob from Lotr(return of the king) it would be really cool to go through a dark eerie cave system in the search for a rare artefact, which the Templars have requested you retrieve as a show of faith for them.

As your explore the cave you hear the slow tempered patter very faintly but its enough. You know there is something, something following, something stalking, preying, waiting.

What I would love, instead of waves and waves of spiders that apparently live in colonies instead have a solitary female who bides her time and uses her webs only when they are needed, a man hunter. Smart, Cunning, Powerful, Agile and Above all else Deadly. She should be a challenge.

Hell you could explain the Spiders ability to talk by posses it with a demon? That would be interesting. Not only are you fighting a deadly spider but one with the abilities of a pride demon?
Sounds fun.

If you have to have spiders in DA:I at least don't have disgusting loot when you kill them. I really don't want spider gall bladders as loot...ugh,
Do they even have gall bldders?  :crying:

Insects are very simple internally. They wouldn't have livers or gallbladders.

The one in my shower last week looked pretty simple as an easily washed-away blob on the wall. :P

Well, maybe not from your average spider... But I think if you really wanted, you might be able to score some bladders from these... uh, guys.... :wizard:

All the spiders in Australia are about the size of the ones in Dragon Age so it's actually fairly accurate.

No, the scary monster isn't going to be removed from the franchise just because some people have a phobia. If they replace spiders with bears, a whole different group freaks out. Replace them with evil flowers and yet another group freaks out (for different reasons).

Just mod them out again, if you must.
