Hey guys,

I'm really excited about ME2 coming soon, so I've been playing some ME1 for PC, and I was reminded that several of the game textures, especially Garrus' face, still aren't fixed.  Now that ME2 has gone gold and about to launch, I would just like to remind the developers that we PC gamers would be incredibly grateful if you would release a texture pack for ME1 for PC.  We know that it would most likely be a massive patch, but many of us think that it is totally worth the download.  Some of the low-detail texture issues include Garrus's face, Din Korlack, Dr. Chakwas' clothes, assorted armors, etc.  We would be eternally thankful if you would please fix whaever textures you can, as it adds significantly to the realism and depth of the game, and it will bring this excellent classic game even closer to perfection.

If we can keep this thread active so the devs see we're interested, it will be all the more likely that they'll be willing to do this for us!

Thanks for your excellent game, I really hope you will consider fixing the texture issues.  We will love you guys even more, and will make your wonderful game even better.

Aye, I agree. Most of the issues with ME1 PC were small, nagging issues like Garrus' face texture and stuff like that. I'm hoping that because ME2's PC port is being handled in-house by BioWare, it will be up to the quality of at least Dragon Age--perhaps better. If I load up ME2 on the 26th and my 5.1 works correctly out of the box and Garrus has a detailed face, I'm gonna log that as a win.

I agree, but I really love to go back and play previous games on occasion, especially ones as good as ME.  I really hope they patch it just one more time to fix those texture issues.

This one is being handled by Bioware eh? We'll probably see an increase in quality over the 360 version, much like what was seen with DA:O.

Previews and whatnot gave ME2 to have a level of polish well above what we've seen in ME and DA:O, though.

I can't wait.

Here's hoping it will be coded first and foremost as a PC title, and retro'd for........well you know.

Patch 1.02 (AKA Pinnacle Station DLC) was already "supposed" to fix Garrus' facial texture, if I'm not mistaken, but there was no cigar.

they fixed garrus' face in the squad menu only... chris said that in order to patch garrus everywhere, it had to be a gigabyte-plus patch, since the files get all scrambled due to the unreal engine's cooking process.

I'd gladly download that patch, though. they could even make it a "dowload your whole game again" thing and I wouldn't care, as long as they finally got these little annoying things out of the game. as the OP said, it's so close to perfection...

It fixed Garrus' face in an icon that was used in the UI.  Apparently, the devs misunderstood the request from the community.  No big deal.  But now they know that the issue lies deeper and will take a significant patch to fix it.

Totally agree.  Anybody else have some input?

This is my thinking as well.

As much as the various annoyances in ME1 were, well, annoying, I'd rather they spend that time and resources on other newer things.

If Bioware already has the high-res textures saved somewhere in their archives, would it not be much better if we could get the official, original textures rather than leave it up to community modders who would have to recreate the textures from scratch?

You do realise DA:O was made for the pc and the 360 version was a port right? And ME2 aint a port so there wont be any quality difference they will both be great. Going by reviews there aint any texture problems.

They are never going to release the original textures... May as well forget about it.

I (and other PC players) had a lengthy conversation with a Dev on the old boards.  They said that they may look into another patch after Mass Effect 2 is finished.  I created this thread to show them that we are still here and very much interested.  You don't have any idea what Bioware will do, so post stuff you don't know about.

And seriously, don't start a console flame war here.  I purchased Mass Effect the day it was released for PC, as did many of my PC friends.

We're entitled to just as much support from the Devs as you are.

Doubt it, it's more of a console game - Microsoft pretty much want it for their list of exclusives on Xbox.

How does "another patch" constitute a texture pack, or the original textures? Image IPB

Anyway, don't get me wrong.  I've actually requested the original textures myself before, so I'm with you on this..  But, I'm highly skeptical it's going to happen.

After the DAO texture ordeal, I don't believe Bioware has any interest in further polishing their games after release..

@Mordigan: Don't quote me, but there was a thread on the old forums where there were many pages of conversation discussing Garrus' face from both before and after the 1.2 patch.  There was at least one Dev who say that they may look into doing a patch to fix Garrus' face (and hopefully other textures) after the team was done with ME2.  They never promised anything, but they gave me some hope.

Bioware is releasing a PC version at the same time as the console version.  Mass Effect is now just as much a PC game as a console game.

Define "console game". Funny that bioware developed ME2 from the ground up as they did for the xbox version.

Really, games are games, pc games, xbox games, ps3 games are all the bloody same.
