...by the end of the Human Noble origin story, with Teyrna Eleanor declaring she'll stand by the door and die over her husband's body to let her child escape...

Yeah, my wife and I were both bawling like children.

Well done, authors.  You drew us in over something like an hour of gameplay and made the NPCs so meaningful that we were both going for the tissues when they died.

I bet you cried when you watched The Notebook too didn't you. DIDN'T YOU mister sissy pants. I jest, that was great writing for sure, I didn't cry though, probably because I my balls together weigh a whopping 4200 pounds and was used by the government in the early 90s to demolish the Berlin Wall.

Well, with all the pain of lugging those around i can imagine you were too distracted to cry. it is called a "counter-irritant." Like usin hot peppers to combat pain.

Well, Arl Howe might not have killed the mother. Perhaps he wanted a trophy or is keeping her just in case the son shows up. This would be an interesting plot twist to say the least.

Maybe I played it wrong, but it came off as very cliche to me. I felt the dialogue options made you powerless cause it was railroaded. I wanted to get the mom to safety the whole time, and there didn't seem to be any way to do that. I also found it very odd that with his whole line failing the dad would just all of a sudden up and change his mind regarding his kid becoming a grey warden.

Really hope the other origins are better than this, and it makes me sad for future playthroughs as human wise it might have to be mage from here on out.

He didn't up and change his mind. Earlier, you can ask him what he would do if Duncan chose you - and he says he would have to give it serious consideration. Bryce clearly puts the kingdom over everything.

I had tears in my eyes, but at least they didn't spill over, so no reaching for the Kleenex.

I actually felt for my character at that point... this game has been delivering in so many ways.

I love the human noble origin story, from start to end.

I also cried. It was so sad. Usually it takes me a while to get into my character, but that scene and story did it in such a short time.

I'm looking forward to so many more moments.

Considering that we writers live off the bitter tears of the fans, you have hereby sustained me for another day.

Much obliged. :)

Kudos, Mr. Gaider.

The last time tears came to my eyes playing a game was the release-the-children's-souls scene in Jade Empire - did you write that, or participate? fess up - and I think this one was better.  [EDIT:  I just looked up JE on imdb and there is no "David Gaider" credit among the authors, so I think there's probably no need for 'fessing.]

At the beginning of the scene, I wasn't emotional at all, just kind of thinking "OK, this is exactly what I expected," but then the characters started interacting. And lo, it was good. . . .

Hummm, that was not so much cry worthy as annoying. You wouldn't leave your momma there to be raped and murdered no matter what. It wouldn't have taken but another line of dialogue in the next scene where 'mom' was sent to Castle Whatever instead of being left to the fates. Really now.

Let me begin by saying I have just finished playing thru all 6 origin intros, so I have experienced them all.

And while I loved all of them, the Human Noble was my favorite (Dwarf Noble was an incredibly close second).

And what is funny about this was that after hearing something about the all before the game came out, I was SURE that the Human Noble would be my very least favorite. It sounded lame and boring and not at all the grand tale that all the others seemed to offer, with very little tension to get you into the story.

BOY was I wrong. The first part had me rolling on the floor laughing so hard (the part with the dog in the larder and the part where you try to bed both the son and handmaiden of your mother's guest in particular). And then the betreyal and deaths and everything, I was shocked, disbelieving, and horribly saddened.

I didn't actually cry, but I can honestly say I have never laughed that hard, out loud, at a video game before, and I have never been as emotionally touched or as deeply affected by a story in a video game before either. Ever...BG1 & 2, Jade Empire, and both the KOTR games had some amazingly funny and sad moments, as have many other games in the past, but the intro for the Human Noble was literally spectacular.

Thank you, Bioware, for making such an amazing game. Now, back to the game, my Noble Dwarf Warrior awaits me...time to actually start playing him...LOL!

Yeah I always wondered why I couldn't save my own mom and why my character, after being conscripted by Duncan, had no qualms about being a Grey Warden.

I wasn't crying, but I was muttering horrible oaths of vengeance at my computer, so yeah it was very well done.

She didn't want to be saved. What were you going to do, give her a tap to the back of the head and carry her over your shoulder? As for suddenly being a Grey Warden, my guess is that there is a certain prestige and sense of duty about the Wardens that makes being conscripted by them bearable.

The voice actor did an incredible job with actually sounding like he was dying.

The only bad part of that Origin story is that since it was so well one the whole game I was saying out loud: But what about my brother Fergus??!?!! only to have him pop up at the end saying oh I was alright don't worry about me congratulation sis! I wish there would have been more about it.
