Why don't biotics use swords or martial arts in battle?

Surely the biotics could use their powers to enhance their striking and cutting power. Some people on yahoo have said you would get shot down straight away. What about when Jack broke out of that prison only using her biotics. I even remember seeing like 4 destroyed heavy mechs on the floor. Biotic users are never as strong in the gameplay as they are in the cutscenes which makes sense because they would be really overpowered. I know we already have sword users in ME3 like kei leng and the phantoms but couldn't they have used biotics to make their slashes  more powerfull like adding a little bit of force push beind their swings?

I've often wondered at that. Lately I've been thinking it would be awesome if the asari had an almost medieval style to their armor, weapons, and combat style. Vanguards could charge the enemy and fight with biotically empowered swords and barrier shields, etc. Whilst support classes like Sentinels and Adepts would hang back and use more usual powers. Their tech would still be highly advanced, it would just have very ancient look to it.

The whole idea about biotics is quite simple really...................................they are "ranged" fighters, much like mages.

The idea of anyone in a firearms world using blade-weapons seems as folly though. The swordsman's technique didn't help him much against Indiana Jones with a pistol. Not even for three seconds.

You do know there are games like Elder Scrolls and Dragon Age? Please lets not turn every RPG into a sword and board game. Firearms were invented for a reason, you know.

Karsciyin, that swordman was idiot and deserves to be shot. And to Cap and gown, it will not be the first time that a sci fi series had melee weapons as a potential weapon.

An Idiot with a gun would just as dead as a idiot with a sword going against a moderated skilled enemy regardless of that enemy's weapon.

Remember Superiority of weapons will not give you an automatic victory, Tactics and stragety will always win.

i am a full supporter of martial arts, melee weapons, guns all of forms, explosives, biotic abilities and tech abilities. And each of them will work better in certain situation than others.

Keep in mind that all forms of martial arts follow two rules:
1: never enter combat unless it is necessary, and
2: DEFINATELY never enter combat with an armed assailant.

Maybe video games and movies have taught you a bullet can be dodged. Nope. No. You can, at best, hope for the opponent to never pull the trigger (or be a crappy aimer). If they are in melee range, and are merely posturing, you MAY be able to disarm them.
However: if startled, they may shoot, and if they're reactions are fast enough, you won't disarm in time. BAM dead.
Not everyone who holds a gun is merely posturing or threatening, especially in Mass Effect's universe where you can expect people will use it. BAM dead.
...aaaand we're talking about ACTUAL COMBAT situations here, as part of a normal loadout. People with guns don't normally walk up into melee range for your disarming pleasure. BAM dead.

Granted, movies and games also imply that, when shot [or stabbed! or slashed!], you instantly die. Not correct either (takes around one-to-two minutes, even for chest shots, stab wounds can take even longer). However even accounting for Mass Effect's 'die as soon as HP hits 0' rules, you're hardly in any condition to dodge bullets through sheer force of knowing how to hold a sword or whatever you think it going on there.

I still think a sword would be fun. But that's it.
You don't need to say 'this would make sense'. You don't need to say 'they would train people'. You don't need to convince staff they 'forgot' to add in this apparently no-brainer content. You don't need to try and rationalise a reason for having them. You want them? Think it would be cool? Exciting? Dramatic?

You just need to say "I think this would be fun." They're in the business of making games fun, not making them follow arbritrary rules (especialy not ones that don't even match with reality as it is).

Why would a biotic need a sword when they can tear you apart on a molecular level with spatial distortion fields like Warp, Dark Channel, and Reave?
