Oh come on. Theres plenty of examples. Such as the new Lara croft were people complained she wasn't sexy enough (as in not skimpy enough outfit).

And DA2, where plenty of people complained about Zevran and Alistair.

Not every elf/dwarf/qunari is a warrior you know. They all need food and farmers and cooks as well.

I will probably give Qunari a swing, after getting my human fix in.

Theres always goofballs thats complain when a female lead isn't dressed provocatively.

People actually complained about that? After all the cries of making Lara look normal people actually complained and her not looking sexy enough?

But that's exactly why people wanted Lara to look normal, but I guess there were some who were hoping she got naked or something.

I play Guild Wars 2 and have a Level 80 sylvari and a Level 80 Asari  and in  Map Chat I hear people whine that there are no elves or dwarves in GW2 yet there are 3 other non human races they can play.

So when people say...playing a human is boring...I always roll my eyes.

I will play all the races in the game. I will start two games with one human and one qunari and take turns,

In real life I can't be a human mage or dual welding warrior. So your statement really doesnt make no sense.

I won't play as a Qunari. No interest at all. Elf, maybe human.

That's ridiculous - I have never actually wanted to be a qunari and have no particular interest in it, so I'll be a human or elf mage as per usual.

I don't know if Qunari will be my first race - I've got "stories" going on for each playthrough, from DA:O to DA2, so I'll pick something that fits each ongoing narrative I have.

But I will play a Qunari as one of the first plays. Human is likely to be last for me, unless something about DA:I makes human attractive for one of my narratives.

I normally avoid elves like Justin Beiber or Lady Gaga, but I actually like the DA spin on elves.

I'm playing as a Dwarf and an Elf first, but my plan is to try all the races.

Just picking human. Boring, I know, I've replayed DA:O nearly a dozen times to completion and I've yet to do so with a non-human protagonist. I just start them up and - while the origins are fun, I've played through all the origins - I can't be interested enough to complete because your race choice is really rarely brought up. I would've preferred the only human, multiple backgrounds approach they were going with but I'm in the minority there.

Nope.  While I am intrigued with playing a "Qunari" (or at least a horned humanoid since kossith apparently isn't the racial name and I don't know if this is a Tal Voshoth or a member of the Qun), I am not a bandwagon kind of person.  I'll play a mage the first time around and probably an elf or a human.  I'll play a "Qunari" in subsequent playthroughs, though...

Well, yo can be a dual weilding warrior, but historically those people don't live very long. That is why the majority of warriors chose for more practical fighting styles like archery, or sword and shield which isn't as flashy as dual weilding but at least it's a lot less stupid.

I really dont know what to pick! Rouge or mage elf or Qunari. I'll have to see what the character creation is like for the Qunari.

I would have liked to have seen what they did with backgrounds. It will also be interesting to see if race selection ends up affecting the story in a negative way.

That said...I'll play them all. :D

That's the thing, why should the default always be human? Why can't they be elf, dwarf,or qunari? And most people who play as the default human do so because they expect it and it is considered to be the norm.

You seem to be saying that if we had a different default, these people would just change it back to human.

At the very least, having it set to something other than a human would at least let newcomers know that they can play other races(and maybe a different race would catch their attention) and the people who want to play a human(either because they like to or for the sense of "familiarity"[sic]) can, they just have to go past the other races like non-human players usually have to.

Newcomers shouldn't have any trouble noticing the ability to pick a different race if they have working eyeballs. And from my many years of playing games, I've noticed that it seems to be the norm for humans to be the default race in any game with multiple racial options.

I think it's the logical thing to do because:

A) Humans are familar, recognizable, and comfortable for most people.
B) We, the players, are all humans (unless there are a few aliens hiding amongst us :P ).
C) Humans are generally the most populous and common race in the game world.

Seeing as a lot of people seem to choose to be human, for whatever reason, there's no point in inconveniencing the majority of them just because you think elves (or some other race) should be the default. I like playing elves usually, and I often choose to be one, but I've never had any problem clicking my mouse button a few times to find the elves or to explore other options. :P

Can you? Can you follow the Qun and be a Mage leader of the Inquisition? I though the path of Mages is to be muzzled? How would that work? Sorry for all the questions but I am curious.:wizard:

I'll probably go with human warrior for my first playthrough, then elf mage for second playthrough, follow that with a dwarfen rogue for my third playthrough and then I'll try out the Qunari.
