Except that there was no confusion. It is clear that the OP is talking about the race but as always someone feels the need to point out that the "correct way" of calling the big horned people is Kossith.

To be fair, you do have someone upthread saying things like "You'll play a Qunari who doesn't follow the Qun" which IS confusing, given that if you don't follow the Qun you are very specifically NOT a Qunari.  Statements like that DO imply that Qunari is a racial term and not a religious one, which is not true.

I see.

Everyone who plays something other than a human hates themselves?

I guess everyone who played Sonic the Hedgehog hated themselves? Pac-Man? Used someone other than Mario, Peach, or Luigi in MarioKart?

Does everyone who watches Wall-E want to be a robot? Does everyone who watches E.T. want to be an alien lost on another planet?

I'd just like to follow how far down the Rabbit Black Hole this logic path goes.

There's clearly a difference between watching something and liking an alien or non-human character or playing a game where the *sole* protagonist/PC isn't Human and playing a game where you are allowed to chose to be the PC as a Human or something else and you desperately want to play anything but Human so much so that, when that option is removed in future games, you rage against it.

Or create a thread where you assume everyone must surely want to play as a non-human. As I said previously, I'm happy people got what they wanted, I'm just not one of those people who believes Role Playing means not being Human; and in discussions with others (and, hell, even comments I've seen here in the threads) it seems like most people who roll another race do so because they think there's something "better" or "cooler" about it as opposed to being just Human.

I prefer playing as a Human when allowed to do so. There's really no "Rabbit Hole, Black" whatever logic there. So back the snark train up there sparky.

I planned to play 3 times, one for each class and race, but the addition of qunari complicated things. There is one race who will get out, and the qunari have the most tickets.

I'll probably create a qunari first just to see what it's like, but I'm making a guess that my first serious character that I'll play a full playthrough on will be a dwarf.

I'll do what I usually do - start multiple characters and see which ones I wind up playing most often.

Because of this humans will almost always be the most-played race, simply because of that first group trying to play as themselves.

Well I've heard of people who relate to other races better. For example some guys are shorter so they say they relate better to playing elves.

I personally tend to mix roleplaying with doing what I would do irl.

And one of my uncles on my father's side is a dwarf. He is a dentist and a gamer. He plays humans.   :wizard:

So I guess every scifi film that had humans was boring to you? I really dont get how humans can be boring. I enjoy all the races. Will never understand why humans get stereotyped

It is, actually.  It contributes to the misunderstanding that many people still have in thinking that Qunari refers to a race of people when it does not.  I'm well aware of the debate, and of Bioware's own stance (via Gaider) on the issue and yes, I did understand what was ACTUALLY meant.   However, I also know that many players still ask what a kossith is, and still use qunari to refer to all the horned giants, even those that are not of the Qun, so yes, the confusion persists.  Whatever Bioware has said on the subject, personally I would prefer that people who know better use the terms properly, to lessen the overall confusion.  I do note that even within the game the confusion persists, but there it is a lore/story issue, and that is interesting.  But meta-wise, I'd just as soon people who know the difference use the right terms.

Yes my dislike for playing human characters in video games totally means I associate them with real humans and therefore hate myself. -.-"

I don't even plan to play a Qunari to begin with. I'm going with Human, perhaps an Elf in a second playthrough.

I think part of what makes humans seem less interesting is that they're not stereotyped.

If you say "elf" or "qunari", then you've already got a bit of an interesting hook to the character.  If you say human, you're really not telling me anything.

(Saying "Orlesian" helps get around this a bit.  But unfortunately the various human nations aren't all that interesting in Thedas.)

Its not about people hating themselves. People have the right to their choices but it has become trendy to bash on humans.

But they are stereotyped. They have gotten the boring stereotype.  I have had just as much enjoyment from playing a human as I have with the other races.  They are only boring because its trendy to hate on them.

It's boring to be the hated race? Sounds more dramatic and thrilling to me.

This doesn't make any sense to me.  It's NOT being a stereotype that makes something interesting.

I don't personally understand why people find humans boring as a race, because it's the story behind the race that makes it interesting, or not, to play.  In Origins I usually do play a Human, but I also play Elves, too.  And I find the elves interesting for their background story, not because elves are somehow more inherently interesting than humans.  If the elves of Dragon Age didn't have the interesting cultural backdrop of being Dalish, or being ghetto-ized second-class citizens, I wouldn't be interested in playing them at all.  But they could as easily have those backgrounds and be human.

The reasonn why playing a human is boring is because it's basicly the same persective we already have as human most of the time. Other races atleast add a new way to look at the world.

I play as a human on my first playthrough because... well, I'm human. Same reason I play as a male first time. Easiest character to relate to as I experience all the content in the game for the first time.

Oh, and humans are not boring. Elves are not ugly. Dwarves have a really interesting culture. Qunari do too, and we know the least about them in terms of the four races.

For stupid people. Not everything has to be built around the communication needs of the functionally illiterate.

Statements like that DO imply that Qunari is a racial term and not a religious one, which is not true.

Except it is true. People in Thedas call large, grey people with horns Qunari. That makes it a racial term. The developers have supported this interpretation of the word because they've run around telling people that Qunari are a playable race.

It's really just each race's situation that adds a new viewpoint, not the race itself. A non mage human from Tevinter would be just as unique and interesting as an elf serf from Orlais.
