So I guess everyone'll just play as a Qunari as soon as the game's released...

For DAI, I'll be making a human mage to start with. My preferred race is human, but I'll be trying out the other races eventually.
What I'm hoping for is that the CC is not gated by non-skippable game play (as in DA2), so I can play around with it, look at the different races and options, before I make my final choice.

And to some extent, BioWare did that with Thedas. Because one of their chief religious and political figures was a woman (Andraste), humans and elves who follow the Chantry (as well as the Dalish from what we've seen) are fairly egalitarian. So our dwarves, for that matter, since women have as much of a shot at being paragons. Only the Qunari really stick out as having these rigid class roles based in some part on gender. So no thank you. I don't want to RP a character who grew up in that sort of environment even if she gets to rise above it and kick serious butt later. It hits closer to home than I'd like for a fantasy game. I play this stuff in part for escapism, after all.
Now, if the Qunari character is really Tal'Vashoth and grew up entirely outside the Qun...I might be more interested. Otherwise, no.

I definitely won't be playing Qunari first, and possibly not at all depending on what the background of the character is. Sten's comments about women in DAO were a huge turnoff. I'm just really tired of fantasy and SF environments that rehash the same tired gender dynamics. Part of the appeal of these genres lies in the possibilities at hand. Writers can create worlds free of some of the issues present in modern society.

Yeah I'd pretty much have to agree. I mean I can see that whole gender thing applying to their society, but it's something that has been done again, and again.
As for the whole Tal'Vashoth thing, I personally don't care for Qunari's one way or the other. So either way I'm going to pass on them.

My punk Tal Vashoth inquisitor will call himself Vashedan and have horn piercings and tattoos all over
You know, I said it in jest but an apostatate Sarebas that left the Qun ( Yes DG, we know it is called Tal Vashoth), would really be a great character to roleplay. A "true" Ketojan, not that fake one Sister Petrice tried to con us with.
Guy would look pretty scary too, which would be fun for a few playtroughs
I believe not even the Kirkwal Templars would be dumb enough not notice a guy with sewn in pierced lips like that would most likely be a mage

Have you seen a Qunari? While the females inexplicably look nothing like males, it's at least on par with elves.VampireSoap wrote...
Elves? Too alien too ugly.
They seem to be toning down the sexual dimorphism in DA 3.
Oh my, I love this. I shall call her swirly bird and him blood beard.
They don't seem to be toning down sexual dimorphism, quite the opposite. In this CA female Qunari seems to be weak and anorexic (bear in mind she has armor), nothing compared to athletic build known from previous works.
But she seems to be less 'pretty' than previously.

Indeed...it seems this obnoxious anorexic trend will be continueing if thats any indication. I must say I am disapointed. I know Bioware typically fully supports female empowerment, but I can't shake the feeling this "artistic direction" is meant to pander to men.

I still hope it's only this art that looks so ridiculous (male Qunari's biceps is larger than female Qunari's waist, plus she doesn't appear to have any muscles - she's just tall, like anorexic model).

Yeah that proportion thing is ridiculous. I'd prefer the male protagonist to be build to look, you know, cool as opposed to someone who needs to stop abusing roids.
