So I guess everyone'll just play as a Qunari as soon as the game's released...

The classic human 20-30 something white straight male is a lazy default choice especially if the game offers character creation.I'm not singling anyone who likes playing as those sorts of character but most people always go with the default because they are subconciously used to it.I wonder what would happen if Bioware made the default a elf or qunari because that will probaly skew the results.

How do they choose being straight in CC?

How many games do you know of where the main character was always assumed to be straight? That's why the majority of the male gamer demographic freaks out if the male PC is gay but never when the female PC starts flirting with other women.

Most games alway go with the 20-30 something white straight male and most gamers always play as one even if there are games with Character Creation like the DA,Fallout,Elder Scrolls,Dragon's Dogma,or ME series.

Humans still polling #1 in the poll. I actually feel sorry for the dwarfs. Last time I checked, they were at 8 percent for people who'd play them first.

So what you're saying is that there are people in a demographic that actively want to play a straight human male. But it was all down to the CC default, wasn't it?

I'm conflicted.
Either I'm playing as a Female Elf Rogue or Female Mage Qunari.
I'll probably flip a coin when I get the game and choose from there.

I already made a thread about this a while ago, but I hope they don't do anything to imply that my character is straight beyond my control.

It's a subconcious thing, most people don't like stepping out of their comfort zone and just go with what they are used to.

I was planning on a dwarf first, but now? Qunari all the way. For what it's worth, I've long maintained that Sten was the most interesting party member in DAO due to his layers of dialogue and different world outlook, and that Act 2 of DA2 was the strongest due to the interaction with the Arishok.

It's the strongest because it's the only part where Hawke actually matters. The first chapter was devoid of any real plot (come on: "get da monies"). The Third had nothing to do with Hawke. It was pointless time filler and then out of the blue -  BOOM. All Anders. Rather Hawke was there or not the results would be the same.

:lol:I bet most people won't even check out the other options  Humans? Boring. Elves? Too alien too ugly. Dwarves? One Sandal is enough for the whole series.

They look like an intriguing option and may be very popular indeed! :)  I myself plan to start with a male elf rogue, and my sibs a female human mage and female dwarven warrior, respectively, and go from there.

I'm looking forward to comparing notes with them, as is mentioned in the "The Return of Races" GI video, on how our experiences are unique.

I think the Qunari fan base is a little bloated right now, just because it's a "shiny" new race to play as. Personally, I'll be mainly playing as dwarves and humans.

Maybe some people do, but I want to play a Qunari because it'd be like getting to play Mass Effect as a krogan. Just too awesome!

Human all the way. Maybe Dwarf at some point. No interest in the other options at this time.

Dwarven players are the minority that'd burn down the world to see dwarves implemented, do you want a burned down world? Neither does BioWare.

Nup. I'll play a lady dwarf warrior first - it's my preferred race/class. I'll play a female qunari mage second though, just because I'm curious.

We talk about this all the time. We have raw numbers, but that's all they are, just numbers. There is no meaning or intent in data. So we hem and haw about statistical double rainbows and how to deal with the problem, if it even is a problem. Thing is, roleplaying means different things to different players, and for many, it is the ability to play and create avatars of themselves, human males or females. Sure, some might also shrug and go with the default, but that's just as valid as someone who spends an hour fiddling with the nose on their dwarf.

It's tempting to think that of course they'd love playing (insert other race here) if they only knew it was there, because you love it, and I of course want them to see it because we pour our hearts into making it. But some players just plain like different things, and there's intangible value in choices they choose not to take. That, after all, is what makes it a choice.

A lot of people play the default. A lot of people can more easily identify with the human. This isn't automatically a problem in need of a solution. Some things just are what they are. Play what you like.

Well, that's sad...Why would anyone want to play as a human in such an amazing fantasy world? Why? Especially when we have 2 other interesting choices and 1 other pure awesome option...I'm depressed :( Oh, please...don't mind me, I'll just find a corner and cry it out. I'll be ok.

Human first to get the "vanilla" interactions, other races after I have half an idea of what's going on in-game and to search out different reactions from the vanilla.

Naw probably 1st play through I'll bust out an elf. Maybe 2nd play through a human and then 3rd time around probably a Qunari? 4th time through I'll kick a dwarf like a BOSS and see that too. I have multiple play throughs and with the what if factor using the Keep so much the sweeter for replaying :D

Well either that or a dwarf. although the new elves look cool. as for most people playing a human male in DAO I barely ever did
