***ME2 SPOILERS***

Okay, so I've seen this a hundred times. The insistence that because Liara, Ashley, Kaidan and Wrex aren't party members they're limited to 'a cameo at best'. What exactly is a cameo? Was Captain Kirahe a character that had a cameo in the original game? Was Conrad? Was Nassana Dantius? What about Fai Dan? Was Captain Anderson a cameo? What constitutes a cameo role?

I'm just curious to see what the fandom is anticipating for these characters as far as role is concerned... and where exactly all this information is coming from that they're limited to a 'cameo role'.

Well, a cameo is usually a brief appearance of a character, but the devs having been constantly saying that the ME1 characters (specifically the LIs) have major roles throughout the trilogy, just not as squadmates. I trust them to keep me engaged with those characters.

*SPOILERZ!*

I do believe the plot will be something like, your past LI gets kidnapped and a major plot (if not the only one) is you saving them. That would certainly keep my LI in the foremost of my mind through the game, no?

I'm pretty sure nobody at Bioware has referred to them as making "cameo" appearances, FYI. Just that they don't have a prominent role like the did in the first game.

A cameo is when an established character makes an appearance, which is often brief and inconsequential. Not the "major role" they're supposed to have, so "cameo at best" would seem inaccurate.

Not really. The cover up began when the merketing manager revealed in an interview that Wrex got a cameo. That angred a lot of fans.

In there the marketing manager claims that Wrex will get a "really cool cameo".

Come on, you're looking to the MARKETING department for information about game content?  Honestly?  No statement either way on the issue, but that's just the wrong way to go about things.

As for Wrex, his survival isn't guarunteed, and there's nobody to swap in.  Kaiden and Ashely can be swapped against each other, and otherwise play the same role.   Making Wrex major would lock out content for people who don't have him around.

Well, in Wrex's case, it could very well just be a cameo.

- Show up on Tuchanka (sp)

- Short cutscene reminiscing

- Run mission for him

- Leave planet

As cool as he was, he wasn't a love interest, and he wont be a companion character, and given what we know so far of the main plot, I can't see him impacting the game much further than that.

I take it you approve of it then. Haha.

I think we'll be doing other stuff on Tuchunka besides just meeting and dealing with him, but other than that, this sounds about right.  Calling something a cameo can have a bit of a broad definition for instance, Bill Murray has a cameo in Zombieland, but he's in the movie for about ten or so minutes. Ten of the best minutes of the movie, too.

To be fair, Wrex can only ever be a cameo because he could be killed in the ME1. Spending too much time on him or depending anything on him would unwise for the devs. But don't get me wrong, Wrex was a constant squadmate for me.

From what we've heard, I wouldn't say Wrex's appearance in ME2 is a cameo.  He's a minor player sure, but his role sounds too extensive to be classed as a cameo'.  Actually, it sounded to me like he's a fairly major power in some ways.

Wrex is absolutely my favourite ME character, so as you can imagine I was a bit upset that he would have a drastically reduced role in ME2.

Finding out he's now tantamount to king of the Krogan satisfies me somewhat.

I think that the only one that was referred to as making a cameo was Wrex...after that people just jumped on the band wagon and assumed the LI's only had cameos as well.

The love interests being kidnapped serves to make the mission even more personal for Shep...if the mission fails the LI could die. Wouldn't interfere with LI's coming back in ME3 since that save can't be used but what a tragic ending it would make. For the successful missions I am hoping for a reunion scene and hopefully interaction with your LI after the main quest since you can continue playing,

And what of people who didn't have love interests?

I get that making the rescue of the LI would be a great way of making the player feel engaged in the gameplay, but I do hope that Bioware thought up some equally engaging method of keeping players who chose not to romance anyone from ME 1 (or couldn't, for whatever reason) attached to the main quest beyond the standard generic 'Save the Ungrateful Galaxy' quest.

Gosh, this was a somewhat vicious fight on the old forums because of the whole "Wrex cameo" deal. I love Wrex, but some people took word that he'd have a cameo as evidence he'd be huge in the game. If marketing or whoever used the word "cameo" with respect to Wrex, trying to communicate that Wrex would, in fact, have a consequential or important role in ME2, then they misused the word. Period. As stated previously, a cameo is a brief and usually inconsequential appearance... frequently nothing more than a few lines. Stephen King frequently had cameos in movies made off his books, offering nothing more than one or two lines, if even that. If Wrex winds up assisting in a fight, being a temporary squaddie, or being a plot-related element for any quest or side-quest, I'd say that's more than a cameo and BW misused the word. But, assuming Bioware's staff understands the English language, I will assume they knew what they were saying and the role will be minor but, as with all things Wrex, very cool.

My LI was Kaidan...It probably wouldn't  have as big of impact for me if it was Liara(as a non-romance) but it would have impact...Liara was almost always on my squad (except when getting achievements) and I considered her and Shep to be close friends. Saving a friend can have emotional impact too.

If he lived he went back to tuchanka and has united all the various Krogan clans under the banner of clan Urdnot and you see him on a throne and he jumps up to greet you.

I hope not or my Shepard's really going to seem like a dick for romancing the new squadmates.  Nothing quite says sleezeball like hitting on another woman/man while on a mission to save your girlfriend/boyfriend.

First time I
read about the throne thingie, but it's true that if Wrex lives and you
played the first game, you will have a lot easier time playing through
one certain mission. If he's ded, the krogan are quite hostile.
