How many of you plan on only playing DA:I once? Even if you really enjoy it.

Oh don't listen to that load of crap mate there is nothing wrong with what you said.

Lmao.
I'll admit that it was insensitive.

As was saying you must have mental problems for using a word that might offend someone a bit.

Look it's nice to try and not upset other peoples feelings and it's best to not use the words that are really going to offend people but it's getting a bit rediculous now.

We can't avoid offending eachother all the time that's just gonna happen sometimes.

Eh, no.  Using that particular word goes quite far beyond merely offending someone, though yes, it IS offensive.  It's right up there with the n-word, or the f-word, and that's something I would kind of expect Sandalishthemaker to understand without lengthy explanation, to be frank.  Given what the word ACTUALLY means, it's not just offensive, it's potentialy triggering to victims, and many of us resent seeing the word used so casually, because it trivializes what the word means to ACTUAL people actually affected by it.

Sandal, for my part, I appreciate the fact that you changed your wording.  I would ask that you re-consider using it so casually in the future, too, please.

I am kinda surprised the word is still even remotely acceptable in that usage in today's language. I guess I live in a bubble.

Well to that I would tell you to get back on your the F word ing High horse and ride it right off an F wording cliff.

You can't just say "This is offensive so you cannot say it"

The N word is quite different though and you know it.

If the OP had actually been making a rape joke I would agree with you but no he didn't he used a word in the english language in a way that some people would view as a bit offensive but really why must we soend all our time worrying about other peoples feelings?

To be honest I find the way you compare racist slurs to this incredibly offensive and I am very offended by your reply but so what? Why should you care? I have every symathy for rape victims, I am a victim of attempted rape myself I just have a different opinion on what is and what isn't offensive because all this is just opinion!

It's a word it's not a racist, sexist or homophobic  slurr it's just a word to describe a very terrible crime.

It all seems well and good policing language but it's a slippery slope.

As long as it has a good ending, yes. I will play the game until my thumbs bleed. Otherwise... Well, there's a reason the ME series is collecting dust on my shelf :(

Not policing, just calling out insensitive comments for what they are. This is a concept that people who rail against "political correctness" can't seem to grasp. There is no force here abridging your right to be as ignorant as you want, except for social condemnation. Which is just as much free speech as any racist, sexist, homophobic or just insensitive comments are.

There are people moving to police more of this stuff based on opinions like that. Plus I love how you imply that I am just ignorant and that my opinion couldn't possibly be a valid one, That certainly isn't offensive. ;)

The OP said something that is probably a little vulger. I wouldn't call it offensive but I can see why people would be offended.  A user on this site then insulted him pretty harshly for saying that and he just apologized and changed it.

All I did was reasure him that what he said really wasn't all that bad (in my opinion) and that that user was out of order. I find insulting people to be more offensive than using words that some don't like weather it's for a good reason or not. Words are just words the intent behind words is far more important.

Anyway now I am enjoying this lovely education that I don't really need so thanks for that . xx

Dude, you can use that same argument FOR racist/sexist/homophobic words.  They're ALL "just" words.  You're just acknowledging the offensiveness of some while refusing to accept it in others.  The problem is NOT that the word was used at all, but that it was used in a very trivializing manner completely unrelated to what it actually means.  Not terribly different from people whose personal experience of actual n*zis causes them to resent seeing that word used in an irreverent manner, as with the phrase "spelling n*zi."

Plus yes if that user had politely said "please don't use that word because it's offensive" I wouldn't have cared about it.

I just hate this moral pedestal people put themselves on where they feel it's ok to be so nasty to others just cause they said something that they find offensive.

Yes you can they are just words but I see more of an argument for not using them seeing as they are used as personal insult and charged with allot of hateful opinion. These words have a big impact and that is why they are taboo.

Rape is just a word and while I actually agree that it's better not to use it that way especially like in jokes It's not so easy to get people to see that. As you just pointed out there are allot of reasons why people will react badly to a word being used.

I am gay myself and gay has recently become a word for rubbish, useless, crappy ect That is sort of upsetting but other people just don't understand that and I shouldn't just exspect them to.

We can't just ban all the words that anyone coulod ever be offended by because that's just silly.

Political correctness is also not inherently about respecting everyone's ignorant opinions, no. ;) One would probably refrain from claiming someone has a mental disability because of it, sure. But the opinion itself is fair game.

In any case, the word is nothing to joke about, which sitm understands, and you seem to understand, so this all seems like much ado about nothing at this point.
