Wouldn't the fact that human nature compels the need to occupy our time infact make all forms of entertainment not needless?Knight of Dane wrote...
Since they were created.
Call it the nature of human need for occupation if you will.
We used to work all day sleep all night.
Now we have a lot of automated systems which takes care of a portion of the daily chores etc.
So now we have more time, time which gets boring.
So we make more games, books, movies etc. to entertain us in that time.
Games that would be unecessary if we peeled the carrots ourselves and washed our own cars.
Romance are no more unecessary than the very media they appear in.

No, I said it was entirely unecessary because we could just work our asses off instead. That way we wouldn't need unecessary entertainment.MassivelyEffective0730 wrote...

Gameplay is important, graphics is debateable (I'd say aesthetics is more important as even decades old games still look good despite the graphics being outdated). As for the "****** material", tell me, do you get in relationships just for sex? I don't, I get in relationships to know the other person more. What you decry and what you advocate are not mutually exclusive, just requires a reworking of some phrases and the removal of a 15 second scene.
Treating a video game romance as if it was real is revolting, You're basically stating video game romances are no different than real life, How ignorant.

It's true though.

The lolz is on you, my friend. I do not get nearly as upset about the presence of romances as much as some of the "enthusiasts" get upset about the absence of them.
I hate the "optional content" defense because it applies to damn near nothing else and you people toss it around like it's gospel. Sounds decent prima facie but has absolutely no substance to it.

He makes no points, he said the same **** twice. "Nobody really needs any aspect of gaming"? Why the hell is he playing games if he's gonna go off claiming that because he can't live without romances?
Romance is no less valuable than any other aspect of the game, the entire idea behind a "game" is that it is a piece of entertainment.
If Plaintiff and others like myself find romances entertaining in games too, why does it have to be elevated as more "unecessary" when the very nature of video games themselves are unecessary entertainment?

There is of course design arguments, gameplay goes first because that's the experience in a game, but if you only focused on that you would end up with a boring shell that might be fun to try first.
Wether the game would be better or not is not an argument I feel like getting into, for none of us would be right. What I'm arguing is that your opinion is not fact, neither are mine, but romance is going to stay as long as there is a demand for it, and as long as it is expected in bioware games.
You are the only one using the word ****** in this discussion, I am not interested in going low enough to argue against such chilish statements. When you have to stoop to insulting terms it just shows that you are trying to cover up the gaping hole that is your missing arguments.
If you really dislike romances so much that you think it ruins your game experience then play another game.
That's what I do when I dislike a game enough; change game.

Anyway, I'm done arguing this. My point is just that romance is optional, just as playing the game entirely is. If ones dislikes the romantic content then either ignore it or play something without it. There's a big market with a lot of games out there.

Quite a bit. Because just like I don't think players seriously believe what they say about genocide and murder, I don't think they believe what they say about romance. Specifically, that people go through the romances to watch a 15 second PG-13 sex scene. Because that's stupid.dreamgazer wrote...

Very few people are as obsessed as they claim all of the people who like romance are.
They always resort to insulting people, calling them deviants, who get off on the romances as if they were porn, etc.. Just like they are now.
