It seems like the Chantry is always a force for good, as it should be, and I'd like to be able to make Leliana the new leader of the Chantry, apparently she's pretty close to being the leader right now. Her sitting on the throne, passing good rules and reforms and such to make the Chantry and the entire world a better place is something I'd like to see in DAI, and continued into future DA games as well.

That would probably require vows to be sworn.

My Warden disapproves -50 :P

I doubt they'll allow such big choices but I believe they'll give us a chance to change some things

My Warden approves: +50

So can anyone list me some tenants of the chantry that don't involve mages?

Nah, I wouldn't be able to breathe from the stifling self-righteousness coming from that place.

My Warden was a Dalish Elf, so the Chantry was just some human nonsense to him. My Hawke was indifferent to religion in general. Personally, I don't dislike the Chantry. For the most part, they have been one of the more reasonable factions in the games. I can't hate on a religion that empowers women. I'm interested to see what their like now without their templar army.

In my first playthrough, my Inquisitor wont be "pro-" anything. He'll do whatever his own moral code tells him is right, whether it is in line with the chantry or not.

On later playthroughs though? I might go pro-chantry. I'd probably go pro-mages first though. Then maybe a character who hates both the mages and the templars.

My Qunari won't have a particular reason to like Templar, Mage, or Chantry.

My Warden commander was very pro Chantry. She was indeed a believer.

My Hawk...not so much.

It has four primary pillars, one of which is the corruption of magic.

The others are:

The sin of pride. Humanity has sinned (most notably by invading the golden city, but this is not it's only occasion) and it is our own fault that monsters (the darkspawn) walk this earth.

The Teacher and martyr. Andraste is the prophet, that taught humanity the right way.

The Penance. We must alter our behaviour and seek atonement for the maker to forgive us and once more turn his grace towards us.

While magic and it's corruption is a central theme of the Chant of Light, the core premise of the religion is about the combatting the sin of pride. Collective guilt is perhaps even more central than magic is itself. Some (particularily templars) may blame mages more than common people, but it's core theology seem to make no such distinction.
It seems to put a lot of emphasis of various ways to seek atonement. From ritually burning your sins (and, presumably, strive to stop repeating them) and engaging in charity, to ritually burning yourself and striving to stop others to giving in to sin (including worshipping other gods).

Sadly, ingame we have not seen much of that side. Since almost all occassions we've seen the Chantry it's been in relation to magic. Not it's other mission, to ensure humanity's atonement. Except the chanter's boards... I suppose those are part of that other mission.

I'd love to do a pro-chantry playthrough but...I can't. I suck at roleplaying any characters that have values, morals etc that are too far from my own, I feel bad and stop playing. And personally, I strongly dislike the Chantry, so did my Warden, my Hawke didn't care either way.

I'm a pro-individual freedom type of person and that often comes through in my early playthroughs of any game. So I am usually against any over-zealous control structures which pits me against the Chantry, Templars, Kings, and especially the Qun.

I usually do enough play-throughs though that I can explore all options.

My inquisitor is going to be pro-closing that big ass hole in the sky with demons pouring out of it. And pro-beating anyone who makes that difficult into submission.

That'll be the extent of his political and religious views.

Fire: Fire cleanse sins (self-branding and immolation is a thing according to World of Thedas).
Penance: Guilt is a virtue (people has to atone for their sins).
Death: Spirits of faithful goes to the Maker side and they burn their dead to mimic Andraste's fate (minus the Nevarran).
Gender: Women are the purer sex and men are judged by Maferath's betrayal.

Although, I personally believe that the current Chantry perverted the Chant of Light. This mean that I'm pro-Andraste, but close to anti-Chantry.

Not a pro-chantry guy at all but the first thing they could do to make elves for example feel more welcomed is if they reinstated Shartan in to the official holy verses (Bible). If the elves aren't allowed to have their own faith they could atleast try to help them assimilate into the Andrastian society.

Sure, when I play a city elf or human I'm usually Pro-Chantry, except for when I'm playing a blood mage (what I did like... once).

I think every religion in the world of Thedas has a right to be there and I don't dislike any of them. Except for crazy cultists maybe.
My favourite ones have to be the Qun and the dwarven worship of the stone and the paragons, though.

The Chantry as an organisation doesn't deserve all the hate that it gets on these forums imo. It's just as flawed as every other organisation in the game but at the same moment does more good than many of these others.

My Cousland Warden and Hawke Warrior are supporters of the Chantry, but are also moderates; believe in judging Mages as individuals and not typing them as groups. Plus both were Templars.

My dwarf warden did not care about the chantry, he did not hold any grudge but he also tainted the ashes for the power: just business.

My hawke was a devout Andrastian and supported the circle system, plus she romanced sebastian.

My Warden was okay with chantry. My Hawke was okay-ish with them, but mostly pro-mage. So, if they were ever to clash in DAI - I'd probably reject the chantry and support the mages.

I feel like the chantry sat by and did nothing to help the mages that were being persecuted in DA2, so... I think my Inquisitor will be an Elf!Mage who despises the human religion. *cackles*

The verses were struck out because Andraste helped free the elves and granted them the Dales.  It's harder to subjugate a people and justify taking their land when there's an entire gospel that makes it clear your religious figurehead would NOT have approved.  I imagine there would have to be a serious cultural shift towards elven equality and the regranting or reclaiming of the Dales before Shartan's verses are reinstated.

It depends on the character I'm playing. My mage Warden was Andrastian though he didn't agree with everything. Much later on he became interested in his Dalish roots, and ended up with a mixed sort of personal faith.

My Hawke was also Andrastian, but he wasn't a very religious guy.

My Inquisitor is going to be Dalish, and definitely isn't Andrastian and has no love for the Chantry.
