I heard from many on the internet that there is a fairly easy way to recruit Legion before you've gone to the Collector ship or the derelict Reaper, and furthermore that doing so unlocks a lot of unique hidden dialog and cutscenes involving Legion and the crewmembers when you bring Legion on the missions that would have otherwise taken place prior to his recruitment.

 This extra hidden Legion dialog sounds tantalizing. Apparently the game recognizes Legion as Legion as well, so just having him with you is enough to trigger all the "hidden' content pertaining to him being with you.

Does anyone know anything about this, or have some idea what I'm talking about?

I usually use gibbed to add Legion after Freedom's progress. I had never had any problem with that, as opposed to enabling all recruitment missions early.
Just tick Legion, acquired, revealed,selectable.go down talk to him to get the viper upgrade, because he will start asking for the loyalty mission and some say you shouldn't do that until the end. so I always ignore him after that. He is fully voiced and has several unique interaction which are great early in the game, (like talking with the council), with the exception of Mordin's mission and Horizon.
I gibb him out again just before the IFF mission and acquire him normally and do his loyalty mission and dialogues then.
It's simple and the game is a great deal better with Legion early.
