Should Leliana Sing?

In DA:O there was a scene where Leliana performed an Elven ballad in the party camp. Like anything else on the BSN some people said they liked it and some didn't. Either way it was in character, considering her backstory as a bard. Oddly enough its the only example I can think of where a bard actually does bard stuff in a fantasy game, despite it being a common 'class.' You'd think they'd at least be strumming a lute in the background during quiet moments, kind of like Chuck and his guitar from The Walking Dead.

Anyway assuming Leliana returns in more than just a brief cameo (likely, if concept art is anything to go by) should she have a scene where she sings or plays an instrument?

I don't see it as a must-have feature, but would add to the atmosphere I think. I will say that if she does sing, this time around it should be something in French since a large part of the game is set in Orlais, and our favorite red-headed bard is Orlesian herself. Give her a French medieval ballad or something loosely inspired by one.

I'll get things rolling with a "yes."

This time though, it'd be nice to hear Leliana/Corinne herself sing. No idea how good she is, but if she wants to give it a crack, she has my full support.

I'd be interested to see a second shot at a scene like it, now that facial animation has improved. That was really my only problem with an otherwise beautiful scene, IMO.

She should sing again, or someone else. I just want it to be a little more organic. Ideally, I'd like it if you catch her/your companion unaware of you while s/he sings to the moon about fables lost and battles unremembered.

Nothing abrupt like

Leliana: Hey you, guess what! I know THIS song! Wanna hear it?
Warden: Umm, well, s...
Leliana: *Breaks out into song*

She was so obviously lip synching, but it did like the song.

She probably will, and I will skip that moment if I can.

That was my only gripe as well. The facial animation was a bit off.

I never liked musicals because randomly breaking out into song just has always been incredibly bizarre to me. While I realize this wasn't random, the whole scene was just awkward to me. If you're going to have bards...bard it up, I'd prefer they did it in smaller bits, more than once. Maybe a riff here and there.

Additionally, she could follow the party around and play a few dramatic chords whenever there's a confrontation.

Do people really skip cutscenes on their first playthrough?

There is people who don't even care about what the characters say and just want to skip to the next fight :(

That elven song scene was arguably one of the most awesome moments in the history of video gaming...

But no, I don't think she should sing again...I just got a feeling that a second scene won't be well done...It can turn out to be a cheap sequel just like so many hollywood craps...

Skip as in try to avoid that scenario to begin with. Which probably means I won't truly be able to avoid it until my second run through.

There are, but I personally play these games for the story and characters. Having said that, that doesn't mean I treasure every character interaction.

That's why I think it should be as different as possible from the one in Origins:

Origins                                       Inquisition

at camp with friends                   at a opera house

solo                                             a big play with orchestra and maybe theatrics

cutscene                                     gameplay with possibility to listen or do something else
(such as coversations with other characters, politics,...)

...that's all I've got for now.

I think all the companions including Leliana need to do one big group song at some point.

"Chip the glasses and crack the plates, thats what our seeker hates!"

I'm imagining a fade sequence where everyone gets possessed by song spirits and sings to the PC. To escape the PC must find all the lyrics to his part and perform it. It will happen in a fade opera house. Muhahaha.

I don't think a big musical number would fit when she's not companion. Not with her as the focal point of a scene, anyway - if her singing was just part of the scene it might work well.
