So I just watched Elysium this week, it was a pretty dope movie but the one thing that stood out the most to me was it borrowed a lot from ME. Anyone else seen this movie yet? When the movie zoomed in on Elysium all I could think of was the Citadel. Even the shuttles from the movie reminded me of the shuttles from ME3. The androids also reminded me of the mechs from ME2.

The Citadel? I can see what you mean, but if anything, it seems more likely they borrowed from Larry Niven on that part. It was a miniature Ringworld after all, not a starfish construction. But it certainly isn't far off :-)
Can't remember the shuttles all that well, but I'm fairly sure I didn't make any connections of that kind while I watched it.

On another note, it's good you enjoyed it :-) personally, I was disappointed with all the action and the lack of thematic exploration. And the ending is... odd, considering the situation that led to the construction of Elysium in the first place (keeping it vague to avoid spoilers). But still, it was entertaining enough.

Agreed. The space station does look a lot like the presidium of citadel to me, especially the view of the shuttles flying over it.

It has some common elements between many futuristic movies/stories. But when I saw it, I never thought Mass Effect. I was too busy raging at the disingenuous approach to its political message. But it was a fine action movie.

Funny you should mention this. I was about 20 minutes into Elysium when I started thinking about Mass Effect and the longer it went on the more I thought about how much the two have in common and how Neill Blomkamp would be perfect to direct a Mass Effect movie.

Obviously 'Elysium' itself ( the space station, not the film ) reminded me a lot of the ME's Citadel. Then there were all the combat drones. Last but not least there was the contrast between life on Earth ( reminded me of Omega ) and poshness of Elysium ( one again it reminded me of the Citadel ).

funny thing is when i first noticed the similarities i busted out laughing and everyone was probably wondering what was so funny. man i love this game, with the exception of a few bugs this trilogy in my opinion would be able to rival star wars and star trek as the king of space flicks.

well most scifi movies, shows, and games are styled very similar in one way or another. there are not many new concepts in scifi over the last few decades

I didn't really think it was very much like mass effect. It was a dystopian world whereas mass effect is closer to utopia. Elysium itself didn't really look like the citadel to me, the only similarity was that it was a giant space station which people live on. I thought as a movie the setting was quite interesting and realistic but the story he chose to tell within it was pretty average and din't make much sense.

I agree that visual elements were inspired by Mass Effect, but the story and plot had little to do with each other. I'd like to see a quality SF director like Niel Bloomkamp take a stab at the ME movie.

Oblivion has a lot of similarities with Mass Effect as well.

The bad guys are even similar Reapers.

I've been meaning to see this, now my interest is a little more piqued.

I confess I thought the same thing in a lot of places. The bad guy even fought like Kai Leng in some scenes.
