Like I said at the beginning... give people an inch and they'll take a mile.

Small wonder that we who get a whole inch would not be satisfied when we've been watching the rest of you get your mile for, like, ever.

Can you really not see the problem here?  You're exactly right, we're NOT happy with an inch, because while you ARE getting that mile, we are still only ever given an inch.  You're basically throwing us a f*cking CRUMB and demanding that we be happy with it.

Quoted for truth.

I agree, but I believe the debate between Bi and Player sexual romances are almost a pick your poison. I feel like playercentric romance might do their identities discredit, but what if your male warden wanted to romance Alistair? Or what if your Hawke wanted Sebastian?

Can't have everything. That's something a lot of people should learn.

Pretty much, and if they do wanna romance him play as a female

This would be my preference for LIs:

1 straight male - companion
1 straight female - companion
1 bisexual male - companion
1 bisexual female - companion
1 bisexual male - NPC
1 bisexual female - NPC
1 Qunari, 1 dwarf, 2 elves and 2 humans, based on the above
1 or 2 DLC extras which can be dwarf, elf or human; straight, bisexual or homosexual; male or female*

Obviously, resources are an issue, but, short of having every possible orientation, gender and race, this would be my preferred minimum.

* = no Qunari, unless there are none prior to DLC companions, in which case, there should be at least 1 whom is Qunari

If we must have 2/2/2 I'd prefer

1 bisexual male companion
1 bisexual female companion
1 straight female NPC
1 straight male NPC
1 gay female NPC
1 gay male NPC

That way there's no "but all the companions are bi/gay!" nonsense. You have 2 LIs that are companions and they're for both genders. The NPCs can be the exclusive options. Hopefully the NPcs will be similar in degrees of importance. (The companions preferably are more plot important though).

Ok this I agree with, sadly though, many peopel won't like this since they can't pork everyone.

Clearly you haven't been paying attention.

But doesn't that only work if you assume every gay character is created by a gay player?

If you play a gay character who can only romance Zevran or Leliana, then it's not "self-insert" to think it's wrong that the straight character can choose betwen Alistair, Zevran, Morrigan, and Leliana, is it?

It seems your assumption relies on equality, which has never been the case before (except for DA2).

I'm not talking about any one character's options. I'm talking about the player's options. In the case where romances are more restricted, one character might have less options than another. (ie gay characters, most likely) But the player is not that character, and the player can make another character who does have those options that were restricted to the previous character. In fact, the player has the same amount of options if options are defined as "amount of LI choices available"... but granted, not if they're defined as "the amount of LI permutations including the player character."

yes

and the basic point we've been making is that we want them to keep it that way but the entire video game industry's track record is against them so we worry that they may just go back to origins. or worse, mass effect 1 and 2.

I think romance ratios should, on some level, reflect real life.

So there are more male LIs FOR females than female LIs for males (because let's face it, a girl can always find a guy who will like her), less gay LIs, even less bi LIs.

I hate ending up as the last post on a page.

Seb's so boring and terrible that nope.

Also these games have protagonist voice acting. I'd LOVED to romance Garrus.

I'd be damned if I put up with Hale's voice assaulting my ears to do so though.

While I do agree that we shouldn't have everything, it still sucks....I'm just a little bitter.

Can't have everything - stating the obvious to a thread of adults/semi-adults - regardless, agreed. But this is a video game...not kindergarten.

Well, that escalated quickly. Anyway, let's try to steer this topic back on track.

I think player-sexual is the certainly the most practical option, but I dislike it. I think a person's sexuality is an important part of their identity, and should not be discarded so easily. Playing a straight male Shepard, I remember being very impressed with the friendship paths for Cortez and Traynor. Their homosexuality was part of who they were, not the only thing they were. I liked comparing eye-candy with Cortez in Purgatory, or getting dumped by Traynor over a game of chess (not to mention all the great Citadel banter between her and EDI). I grew to be friends with both of them over the game, and I would like to see that dynamic again.

In general, I dislike player-centered narcissism. I feel it violates a companions integrity as a character, while also hamstringing the writers. A lot of people say stuff like "Oh, I loved Morrigan, but it was stupid that I couldn't have a lesbian romance with her", but that sounds to me a lot more like "I loved Fenris as a character, but it was stupid that he wouldn't fall in love with a mage-loving maleficar! Why don't my companions worldview completely change to accommodate my fickle whims?".

I agree, but I believe the debate between Bi and Player sexual romances are almost a pick your poison. I feel like playercentric romance might do their identities discredit, but what if your male warden wanted to romance Alistair? Or what if your Hawke wanted Sebastian?

Not to put too fine a point on it, but... deal with it? Fenris doesn't like mages, Sebastian is straight. Fact. And I see both of those facts as equally important to the character. I think it's ironic that so many player-sexual defenders love to preach tolerance for other people's sexualities/worldviews, but then they expect all your companions to conform to your own sexuality/worldview...

He didn't bother me on that front. Too waffley though. I'd respect him a lot more if he straight up killed Anders without demanding the PC do it. Arrow straight to the head Qunari style would've been boss.

Not Jacob's fault BW decided to have FemShep act like a cat in heat when talking to him. Hell I'd blame the VA for that.
