It's a phrase illustrating that when you show charity to someone, they will inevitably want more and will continue to take advantage of your good graces for as long as you allow it.
Granted, that is not always the case, but it certainly is the case here.

Nobody "deserves" anything as far as romances are concerned. There is just no sense behind people crying that DA:O was "unfair" or thinking that they must have one gay LI for every straight LI.
Yawn. We've been through this before and you will never understand because you are always on the receiving end of the benefit. You get more options so, of course, it's not a problem for you. There's no purpose in continuing this conversation because you aren't open to hearing the other side of the argument, which I tried very hard to do the other day.

So yeah, give us Cassandra and Vivienne as LIs, BioWare.
And lock this thread.

It's just not worth it. I learned that the hard way the other day. Doesn't matter in the long run though because the DA team has hinted that it will probably be playersexual romances again and I expect a balanced ratio.
Please purify this thread. Save us...EntropicAngel wrote...

If I didn't feel the need to leave this place before the darkness stains my soul I'd wade in guns blazing.
Yes. It seems that is why Varric is a return character. Lots of people wanted to romance him, but couldn't. There should be one, and hopefully BioWare conceded to the idea. I am pretty sure dwarves, gnomes, halfings, etc. have never been romance-capable.andrew252 wrote...

They really ought to just get Stanley the talking grapefruit and that mailbox Gaider mentioned for bangable companions.
They don't count for either.
Maybe throw a monster truck in there too, because monster trucks are f*cking awesome.

Yes being treated like a equal. What a terrible thing to continue. How dare people want that treatement to continue.

That is pretty much it, yeah. It sounds kind of regressive, but I don't really think it is, in the context of a roleplaying game where you can choose to play a character wildly different from yourself.devSin wrote...
I suppose, but this still sounds primarily like the player can simply choose not to play a gay character in your argument.Filament wrote...
I'm not talking about any one character's options. I'm talking about the player's options. In the case where romances are more restricted, one character might have less options than another. (ie gay characters, most likely) But the player is not that character, and the player can make another character who does have those options that were restricted to the previous character.
So you're saying it seems disingenuous to assert there is equality when gay characters have less options, even if the player has the option to play any kind of character? I've admitted that gay characters having less options is an implication here, but I'm trying to speak strictly from the POV of the player themselves, and the options they have. If what you say is an issue, I don't see it being about options so much as representation. Which can also be an issue, yes.Again, I think it would be different if equality were actually a real thing, but the player having a choice to simply not play gay is different (at least as I see it) than the player not being able to romance a specific character because they're playing gay (in the scenario where they still have equal choice).
That is also about right. Though you were right to say that a player could also choose to play as a gay man, while not being so themselves, and be limited in that character's options just as well, which they may also perceive as "unjust." It's not so much self-insert (though it often seems to be) as it is what we're talking about now, which is character options vs player options.I will concede that desires (in terms of players asking for one romance option to be made available to them) are typically self-insert; maybe that's all you were suggesting.
Self-pity? That ironic coming from the one who has issues with his own self-entitlement.greengoron89 wrote...

But that has already been achieved in the previous Dragon Age title, and there is no indication that will change in DA:I.
Yet people continue to wallow in their own self-pity about it. It's quite dull.

Skin color = irrelevant to this thread's topic.
Sexual orientation = in the context of this thread, you (if you are straight) have more options in the series than other sexualities. More options = a benefit.
I'm sorry but "you won't understand because you're one of the privileged" isn't an argument.daveliam wrote...
