Updated 3/21 I've started to highlight the newly added costumes in pink. Please report any dead links. And remember to share any findings! :D

PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Speaking negatively of someone because of weight, height, looks, gender, age, shoe size, WHATEVER is going to be ignored. Its not a contest on who is better, this isn't meant to tear people down, and I am extremely against vicious, competitive 'cosplay'. I am making this post because I am excited to see fans of Mass Effect leak into a costume category--that is truly a sign of fandom to put in that much time, effort and money! Please do not troll or PM the people I linked to, unless they have given consent to contact them on their websites. Go ahead and bug me, I don't mind, but some of these people haven't been logged on in awhile/don't want to answer questions. PLEASE KEEP THIS ALL IN MIND!

FIRSTIES!
1. Kris Sayer from Tatterhood.com made a wonderful Liara T'soni costume in 2008, and it was featured in the Mass Effect community spotlight. She is currently making a THIRD mold of her asari headpiece. I think she is the "founding mother" (or matriarch!) of Mass Effect costumes :)
Her posts and comics can be found here www.tatterhood.com/comics and new updates on how to sew the scientist suit here. Kris also has a cosplay page up with new photos just in time for ME2! The detail shots are amazing.

2. At 2008 Gencon I saw a HUGE Mass Effect group with an awesome (blonde) Ashley Williams in it. Click Here

3. Mass Effect scientist.  They used Kris Sayer's design for reference Posted Image

4. Here is a Benezia at Anime Boston and received Honorable Mention at a contest Click here.  She recently made a commando and did the headpiece out of fabric, which I think would be super hard to do Click here

5. Tali, Benezia, and Shepard. From an unknown 2008 con. Thanks Tatterhood for finding this! I actually saw the Tali WIP when I was making mine and I roughly designed my helmet off of their base design and finally a photo of it...with more cosplayers!

6. Bioware's Shepard. Bioware commissioned the armor to wear at conventions (I believe they had it at PAX) it doesn't really belong to anyone (I don't think) but its definitely an amazing armor set...and the gun o.o...

COSTUMES IN THE WORKS:
This section has been severely condensed due to inactive progress or dead links

1. Turian design. Currently the head is near completion. Its made of foam and latex!

2. Saren, with beautiful glowies!

3. Rana, the model for Samara's face, is wanting to get a professional Samara costume together. Its for a good cause, and if you donate more than $20 you receive an autographed photo!

4. Miranda loyalty suit from NYCC

5. Shepard's Kasumi dress by NekoMimiChan. So far she has the Carnifex hand cannon done, and it looks gooood.

New, Finished/Near completion works
1. Samara by Satine. Her level of detail is amazing and has made me rethink my casting methods.

2. Tali Zorah nar Rayya in the default variant. Very well done on the swirl fabric!

3. another Tali vas Normandy. The first completed one I've seen!

4. A gorgeous club asari, from Matt Rhodes artwork

5. HistorianofHell had a full on group at SDCC. The group was Femshep, TIM, Tali, the reporter, and Grunt. Congratulations Holly for getting a Kotaku spot, the documentary for SDCC, and winning 2nd in the SDCC Contest! You definitely deserve it.  :)  Her skit is alll over youtube!

6. Bioweapons made male and female n7 suit, complete with M8s! It comes with a step by step tutorial.

7. Jack by JiaJem. The details are spot on.

8. Garrus! Very pro, working lights and an awesome mask. He attended PAX with a Tali and Maleshep

9. Miranda in default suit. She went with a TIM and Tali. They look so awesome!

10. Another Miranda in default. Great accuracy!

11. Volpin (of VolpinProps who made the famous Big Daddy costume) made N7 armor and M8 avenger. He got to [right hook] Mark Meer!

12. Thane! Very awesome headpiece and cool way to design the eyes

13. Tali vas Normandy. Its helmet is perfect! <3
13b. Commander Shepard. Compared to other Shep costumes so far, I really find his face and haircut to be fitting for Shepard.

14. Actress Tammy Howard made a Shepard uniform in hopes of getting cast in the movie. Follow her journey at masseffectme.com

15. Tali'Zorah nar rayya in original armor

16. Liara on Illium. Fantastic costume, headpiece by Satine!

17. Commander Fem Shepard by Palaven.

18. two Femsheps, one Kaidan! Their costume walk on is on youtube somewhere, its very amusing :D

19. A mini Shepard!!! Very cute, someone who is working on their own armor made a smaller version for their nephew!!

20. Commander Shepard N7 armor, with the helmet! I don't think I've seen n7 armor with the helm before, and I think he did an awesome job! I want it~

21. Tali'Zorah vas Normandy by NykkiJo Her first costume ever, and all made from items at home!

22. FemShep in the Scientist suit by hanar05 I believe she is the one responsible for the Cure Thane campaign--and she sent a huge support banner to Bioware!

23. FemShep in cerberus uniform by LadyAeducan One of my favorite on-ship costumes :D

24. FemShep in the Kasumi DLC dress, by envirion. So pretty, and very accurate!

25. Kasumi Goto! Our first Kasumi, everybody! Can't wait to see more photos!

26. Mordin Solus! Our first, and probably last Mordin costume we will see. Its a fantastic costume, despite the "proportion accuracy." Amazing detail, I would love to own this costume :3

MY WORK:
Yes, I get my own little section :P I used Tatterhood.com's tutorial for the asari headpiece, and got a lot of
image reference/critiques/supply links from Bioware forumite David Hingtgen and great feedback and inspiration from many, many forum users (forumite Goodwood_Shepard and thepayne78 contributed a lot of input and ideas, they were a great help).

1. Tali'Zorah nar Rayya My first costume, retired, dead, buried. It was an okay start but I think if I ever go back to it I'll use better materials. It made it in to io9's costume roundup, was in the Gencon masquerade (3:45 in. no awards but it was fun!), and was in the Japanese Cosmode Magazine (issue 31), and featured on Ripten's Cosplay Spotlight. I think it had a good run :)

2. Asari Commando as seen on Badpie's blog (currently redoing it for a Shiala costume )

3. Asari/human Consort (retired)

4. light armor N7 Shepard. made in 2 weeks for the ME2 release. Not too fond of it so its retired.

5.  Miranda's loyalty costume. worn at Gencon and PureSpec but I need to retweak it.

6. Aria T'Loak Made in 3 weeks for PureSpec. I need to get a decent photoshoot for it and make some proper pants. Headpiece is by Satine.

7. Shepard in the Kasumi DLC dress I absolutely love this outfit. I made it the day before PureSpec so I need to tweak it.

I'll be happy to answer any questions about how to make these costumes. In the WIP and tutorials gallery I do have small tutorials but if you need info on where to buy supplies or need more details let me know! I'd love to see more people doing costumes of such an amazing game. I'm currently teaching, so I might take awhile to post but I always make an effort to reply Posted Image

Nice Job! Your really dedicated to go as far as you have with costume materials/design/implementation, so props on an amazing job, especially on Tali, I imagine that was a pain to walk around in, lol

some nice asari costumes there, though i suppose its alot easier than say a turian costume (cant wait to see the finished products of those). id love to see an alliance admiral outfit made, (anderson's clothes) its simple but awesome.

also, OP is hawt in her n7 armor. but you probably knew that.

Wow thanks for the (super fast) replies! I'm glad everyone likes all of the small, but wonderful roundup of costumes!

Revan- Yes, it was a huge pain to walk in...belts were sliding off every few steps, the helmet was too tight, it was like 85 degrees out...Thats why its retired now xD;;

Aznsoi- I lack the hips so I bought hip padding lol. I have a little tutorial on mask making, but there are much better methods (like the pepakura helmet)

Frotality- haha thanks--I won't be using the polo suit I have a new full bodysuit I'm still sewing and painting so hopefully I'm just as "hawt" :P  I actually was really, really wanting to see an Alliance uniform and tried very hard to force convince my boyfriend to wear one if I made it but he refused :( Hes a little shy about costumes. I can't wait to see the turians either! The proportions are going to look insane.

Very impressive stuff. If you make yourself a Miranda or Subject Zero costume, your boyfriend will probably wear whatever you want him to wear.

Thanks guys! (Hey Alocormin! ^^)

Marlo- Actually, he doesn't think he'll like either of them xD I think he will end up liking SuZe but hes very picky about his characters. He likes Tali the most, and yet when I told him I was making a Tali costume he replied "You know theres a huge Tali romance fandom, right?" I didn't believe him...oh was I so wrong lol.

A small update on my armor. Its been sanded and gessoed so I'll be painting it today. Hopefully I can get some more progress pictures up.

Edit: An update on Kris Sayer's (Tatterhood) asari. She's provided a lengthy description of how she made her scientist outfit I'll add it to the OP

lawl:happy:

i doubt a subject zero costume could ever properly be adjusted to become family friendly; those straps would never stay in place like they do.

Whew, lots of  comments already! Again, thanks for the comments and I'm glad everyone enjoys the display...hoepfully the roster will become longer!

Frotality- two words: fashion tape :innocent:

regnier- hahaa yes thats a hanar toy, he lights up too! :) I carried it around halfway through the day and posed with it. I forgot to show Evil Chris at the Dragon Age booth so I was a little disappointed. Initially I wanted to make a "life size" hanar so it could be a silly costume/hat to prop onto your head but that idea only came to mind a week before the convention so it never happened.

lincer- it is a little tricky. Light armor I associate with using more fabric than bulking it up with armor pieces. The male layout isn't as different as the female (only big difference is the chest plate and "cup") If my mini tutorials make sense I'd say use em! I used wonderflex which you can buy at cosplaysupplies.com and bought a bodysuit on ebay.

That guy with the Saren (or 'a Turian') mask needs to hurry up. I'd buy one of those. Don't know how I'd make a Turian costume but the mask is awesome.

Thanks for the replies everyone--artists and their art indeed! I said I'd have photos yesterday but I was behind on painting. Now I have all my pieces painted! Sorry about the hideous shirt/pant combo--I tried finding some form fitting things in my closet to simulate the bodysuit I'm using. I'm still sewing and painting my suit so I don't have that complete for photos yet.

Regnier- I love those "hats"! I think the hanar being a hat might get in the way--what with the dangley legs and all

Hey thepayne! Good to see you on here--I gave you a little shoutout in the OP :)

LurchALC- I know, its really disappointing that a lot of the ME costumes get put on the back burner. I think people get discouraged because they have no one else to talk to about how to make certain parts and it feels like it takes forever. I'd love to see how they end up making the mask--I've often wondered about how to make the mask for a costume (not just looks) and I think for maximum movement and ability to talk and breathe would be to spearate the mandibles and chin.

Link to the original forum thread here

For those who don't wish to click the link I'll do a quick copy/paste of the OP and update it a little.

4. This fine lady did a Benezia at Anime Boston and received Honorable Mention at a contest Click here.  She recently made a commando and did the headpiece out of fabric, which I think would be super hard to do Click here

COSTUMES IN THE WORKS:

1. Another Benezia!  So far only a makeup test but it looks good!

2. Saren  So far he has a mold of Saren for a mask, and I'm really, really excited to see the outcome!

3. THANE! Although there is not any progress, there is a post asking for advice  He plans to get started at the beginning of the year.

4.Tali and Shepard. Mass Effect forumite KreeCapt was in my Tali thread saying he was going to make a Shepard and a Tali for his girlfriend. I haven't found anything on his work yet, so I'm anxious!

5. A Bioware forumite is making his own original Turian design.  He's currently doing clay molds which is a long process so I hope hes doing well.

6. I've heard from about 3-4 people asking for Tali tutorials and help, 2 people wanting info on asari costumes, and 1 person for a n7 Femshep

7. Someone on the 405th is doing a pepakura Tali. So far shes got the resined mold of the helmet and it looks amazing, I'm in awe.

MY WORK:
Yes, I get my own little section :P I used Tatterhood.com's tutorial for the asari headpiece, and got a lot of

It made it in to io9's costume roundup, was in the Gencon masquerade (no awards but it was fun!), and was recently added to the Japanese Cosmode Magazine (issue 31). I think it had a good run :)

2. Asari Commando (will be redoing the headpiece--seriously too close to the hairline to latex to my face )

3. Asari/human Consort (retired until I get better materials)

4. light armor N7 Shepard. Currently a Work in Progress but I'm aiming to be an inflitrator Shep for the Mass Effect 2 midnight release. It's coming along! Link goes to a work in progress gallery where you can see how I made armor, attached the armor, painting the armor and extra things like making boot covers.

I'll be happy to answer any questions about how to make these costumes. In the WIP gallery I do have small tutorials but if you need info on where to buy supplies or need more details let me know! I'd love to see more people doing costumes of such an amazing game. I'm currently doing my last semester of grad school, so I might take awhile to post but I always make an effort to reply Posted Image

Huh. That's you? I've seen your Cosplay profile before. Didn't know you were here. I don't think there are many cosplayers here though but I could be wrong. I'd love to try a cosplay but I don't think I'd be all that good at making any costume.

Really good costumes, nice work especially with the Asari Commando, been toying with the idea of doing an N7 for a while, although already got two big projects on the go at the moment so that will probably be on a long back burner till they are sorted.
