Amazing job!! I think its great how much work you put into your costumes--and it shows!! If I ever costumed up it would definitely be a ME costume--sadly I have neither the courage nor the talent for such things. Lol.

Thanks for the shoutout HMWSGX. The paint job looks great on the armor before I read the comment you made about dirtying the look of the armor was thinking, like how you gave the armor a worn look makes it look more realistic and gives you the impression that the armor has been through some stuff.

Reminds of the Star Wars Clone Wars episode "Rookies" where the Rookies' armor was pristine looking and it wasn't until they went through some stuff and the armor got dirty and worn through battle that they where no longer considered rookies. So kudos on the great work on your costume.

Thanks again for keeping the thread going everyone!

Skullandbonesmember- Yup thats me :) I was a member at the original forums for about a year and a half but I mostly lurk. It seems like there aren't too many cosplayers here but I think a few of them are starting to find interest in doing a couple of costumes. I'm not very good at costume making, I just read a ton of tutorials. I think if you start with something simple (oh god not a Tali costume that was a bad idea) you'll get the hang of it. :)

SirUlrich- Aw no ;-; Well, let me know when you start working on it so I can add you to the list!

MuguetdeMai- Heck yes! Like I told Skull, I read lots of tutorials and I recommend starting something simple. I think if anyone wants to really cosplay but would be nervous or shy I would recommend something that hides your face a little. I think it makes you feel more secure--you know, kind of like how the quarians wear their enviro suits on the flotilla to have personal space and privacy   I definitely felt very comfortable in my costumes since it disguised my face in some way or another (big fan of masks and headresses).

thepayne- I *love* that Clone Wars episode! And I have to say I definitely prefer dirty armor rather than clean. It just gives it a more 'dark' feel to it.

I looked over my thigh plates and realised I forgot to paint on the circles (like whats on the shoulder plates). So I still have work to do, but I won't bother with posting photos of that since its a small change.

EDIT: added a link to the Tali costume section. I forgot there was a video to my gencon walk-on. Yes, it is meant to be cheesy.

Yeah I agree it does give more of a 'dark' feel.

Not saying I am actually every going to do an ME costume but if I ever did one I would probably go with alliance uniform Shepard wears around the ship. Its somewhat simple looking but still has a nice look to it and nice lines.

Just a small update. I'm finishing up my suit tonight and I'll post photos...I guess next weekend since I'm sure we're all going to be fixed on playing ME2

I'll be premering my Shepard at the midnight release so I'll take some photos. There are some parts of it that are unfinished so its not 100% complete. I still need to make the "backpack" and the helmet. If it happens to be a small world and you are at the same GameStop please say hello!

And I was given this surprise over the weekend. Ripten's Super Awesome Cosplay Weekly Spotlight featuring Tali'Zorah nar Rayya! Very pleasant surprise knowing that even after Tali's retired it still gets some love :) I'd watch the author since this seems like a series and its always great to see all the levels of costume making.

Also, I was thinking about adding tutorials I find useful in costume making to the OP. Would anyone be interested in this?

wow, those are really good! I can't believe the intricacy of your Tali costume... must have taken so much time. Also, I like the asari facepaint a lot. It looks like you did a nice job with the 'freckles' I guess I would call them, that some asari have. Also, your eyes are sort of close to the same color as Liara's. Sweet!

That is awesome glad to see your Tali costume is still getting the attention it deserves even if it is retired. Yeah think it would be good idea to put costume making tutorials you find helpful in the OP. Hopefully the tutorials would encourage some people who were thinking about making a costume but weren't sure how to go about getting started on making one some inspiration.

Also look forward to seeing your Shepard costume pics from the ME2 midnight launch that your going to. Like the rest of your work sure it will look spectacular.

MY WORK:
Yes, I get my own little section :P I used Tatterhood.com's tutorial for the asari headpiece, and got a lot of
image reference/critiques/supply links from Bioware forumite David Hingtgen and great feedback and inspiration from many, many forum users (forumite Goodwood_Shepard and thepayne78 contributed a lot of input and ideas, they were a great help).

1. Tali'Zorah nar Rayya My first costume, recently retired. It was an okay start but I think if I ever go back to it I'll use better materials. It made it in to io9's costume roundup, was in the Gencon masquerade (3:45 in. no awards but it was fun!), and was recently in the Japanese Cosmode Magazine (issue 31), and featured on Ripten's Cosplay Spotlight. I think it had a good run :)

Good work HMWSGX!

That Tali-suit must've been a lot of work making! How long did it take?

EDIT: LOL funny comment here HM... They're HUGE! :D

I remember seeing your Tali costume on I think it was io9, HMWSGX. I thought you did an amazing job with what was/is clearly a very difficult costume - and reading about your troubles wearing it I'm not surprised you retired it! Still, just wanted to say amazing job, well done. Great Gencon walk-on, too, looked like you were really having fun with it.

Speaking as an unashamed Tali fanboy, I hope you have another crack at it one day.

Keep up the good work!

I'm still all squealy over the new photos, they look so good!! Also Kris, now that I'm on my own computer the suit looks green now   I'll post your costume link to the OP

Thanks everyone for the comments! Maybe I'll take another crack at Tali when I'm her age :3 I have about a year and a half until then.
I did go to the midnight release last night and I did wear my costume. I'll post photos soon. They're pretty goofy though so I need to do a decent photoshoot.

Hope everyone is rockin' on ME2 :D

Oookay well I have all the midnight release photos loaded. They're all pretty goofy, so I need to do a proper photoshoot for it. Shepard costume page Its definitely not finished--I need to work on the 'backpack' and the helmet.

Someone also asked me if I would post a tutorial on making hanar plushies. I'll have that up within the week so you can make your own cuddly baby hanar!

Great work on the costume HMWSGX glad to see that it turned out pretty well. Great pictures from the midnight launch. Also who wouldn't love to have a cute little baby Hanar?  Also to me when I see your Shepard face to me it looks like Shepard is worn out from a long ardous fight not brainless at all.

Thanks payne! I haven't made the plushie tutorial yet I just came to say I'm seeing more people discuss making Mass Effect costumes so I think its really going to pick up now :D I'm considering starting a Mass Effect costume website with tutorials/forums/database but that might not take in effect until summer. I've seen people talk of doing a male Shepard, male quarians, and geth! Super exciting stuff :D I won't post them until I see progress because I don't want to get everyone (and my) hopes up.

Feel free to call me either Payne or Brian I respond to both. Cool a website dedicated to ME costumes would be very awesome. Would really like to see a Geth costume because that would probably be a lot different from the alien costumes.

Thanks for comments (and bumping this thread too) xD

I'm actually calling a request for images. I have a lot of people asking about references and screenshots of male quarian armor. Unfortunately, I don't have PC version so I can't get the image captures and skin file. If anyone has a PC version please email me at hmwsgx at gmail. I'll of course give you full credit and mad props for the help.

...Having all of these people wanting to do quarian costumes now makes me want to remake Tali. Its torture!

Yeah after doing Tali's Loyalty quest I thought it would be cool to do a male Quarian costume as well. I don't know just something about their outfits simple looking yet complex at the same time.
