They haven't yet, but sooner or later someone is gonna crawl out of the woodwork and claim they've been slighted by Bioware for some completely arbitrary reason or another - likely involving race, gender, or sexuality.

Wait until Bioware makes a decision either way. They're doomed if they do, and doomed if they don't, if they decide to have a cover with a women on it they'll get acused of pandering to feminists, and if they decide that they'll have a cover of a man they'll be acused of being, unknowingly, misogynistic.

They will get accused of pandering to feminism whilst at the same time probably getting crap from feminists like Sarkeesian for not portraying women in the correct why (which seems to mean whatever the hell she wants it to.

They should just use the helmet or sword being presented to the player and be done with it. It looks cool, and it neatly solves the problem.

Like Origins, the box art simply shouldn't feature the protagonist.

Apart from the dude on the cover.

It could be a girl in full man armor. :o (like the Dwarf Commoner Origin! :D)

*rolls eyes* just throw a wicked dragon in there and we are done.

And didn't they say there are going for the male AND the female in the box art?

Why not just use a variation of this:

Looks good to me. And it will keep you politically correct types from getting your knickers in a twist (or so I would hope).

That concept i do like. Its perfect. While i'd personally love to see the female protagonist adorn the cover. The very simple message that this piece of artwork conveys is to good to pass up.

It's a no win situation; that's why the cover will probably a some sort of symbol on it, instead of a person.

Why not both?

EDIT: And I don't mean flipable cover, both genders on the front.

Fully-armored Inquisitor (no visible race, just figure). Make it reversible with male on one side and female on the other.

I'd prefer the Inquisition symbol due to the fact that it is... Dragon Age Inquisition and just from the title alone it makes sense.

That said if they do have a character on the front... ugh can it not be the PC and instead a companion? I was never a fan of a standard Mage Hawke/Soldier Shep just as a concept.

Reversible with male and female like ME3's cover. The inquisitor could be heavily armored as well so as to leave them racially ambiguous.

x2, the helmet or the hand on the hilt with the rings, that should keep the PC crowd satisfied or atleast they won't moan too much.

Neither or both, i rather have some Inquisition flags, army, logos, politics, companions or dragons.
KOTOR and DA:O both have awesome covers. ME series has the most generic and stereotypical covers ever, especialy ME2. Just make something that doesn't show "Inquisitor walking towards us and trying to look badass".

Dishonored cover is the only exception where i liked that style but mostly because Corvo looks scary and mysterious on cover and not just trying to pose as "hero".

I should probably read threads before posting as it seems pretty much everyone already said what I just did.

The DAO cover has a bloodied dragon silhouette, a male warrior, and Morrigan.

They could do something similar for DAI, have a male and female character on the cover.

Or just a dragon.

Having a companion on the cover could confuse people coming to the series for the first time. By giving the impression that this companion character is in fact the PC. As one reason why it shouldn't happen.

Thats what they should use on the Box Art. The helmet being handed to you represents you, the player, becoming the Inquisitor. Its also briliantly neutral on the gender or race of your Inquisitor.

In short? No gender or PC.

I'm personally sick of white men being the default. It wouldn't kill game companies to break out of that mold and use other models to market their games. It would be quite cool actually if the practice was impossible to predict because all gaming companies habitually used such a variety of marketing models that there was no presumed default.

Next best thing to that would be an undefined model. There are various ways to achieve that.
