DAO & DA2 did not have the protagonist on the cover.
Male Hawke was on the cover of DA2, unless there's another version out there?

I think in a game where there is no set protagonist, there shouldn't be a default protagonist on the cover. I think it confuses what kind of game it is and a lot of people end up thinking "this is the hero" and buttoning through the CC without looking at it. Games with that typical brunette white male with stubble on the cover have me walking right by because in my mind it gets equated with the hoards of shallow fighting games or shooters aimed at angsty teen boys. Games with only a symbol or title or something of that nature have me reading the box to see what kind of game is this?
+1
That's why most people used dudeshep, because they thought he was the only 'right' choice to play because he was marketed to death and that made most people believe that the game was best with him whereas fShepard was nowhere to be seen, no matter that you could play as her.
And as for both of m and f Inquisitor on the cover? No thanks, because that would mean the female will be on the back cover again. Unless they put both of them on the front, i will be fine with that. I don't want the ME ridiculousness to be in DAI as well.

Of course, if I had a choice, I would like to see a Qunari of either gender, as we haven't seen nearly enough of them. There have been like what? 3 body types?
I don't plan on playing a qunari, but it'd still be cool to see more of them.

Pretty much.CELL55 wrote...
Well, from a purely marketing perspective, it should be a human male. Covers are meant for people who don't know the game and don't follow the news, and putting a character that is the same species and gender as the majority of gamers in order to help potential customers relate to the content will most likely result in increased sales.

They do that because their market research and sales data says it's what the average consumer responds to the most.Karach_Blade wrote...
Okay, 25-year-old male throwing in my two bits. I think it should be the inquisition heraldry OR a female inquisitor on the box. Preferably a non-white person. I'm sick of AverageMan McBroski gracing the covers of most RPGs.

A nice logo with a dragon and/or the veil rip. Not too unlike the logos for DA:O and Awakening.

How do you know that, it could've been a women under all that armor. If I remember correctly Origins also had Morrigan and awekening had The Architect. Dragon Age 2 had the male default Hawke.

It is the same Warden as in the cinematic trailers for DA:O. His armor, sword and shield are identical.

How come nobody made a big ****ing stink about the warden having a preset face?
