And that's more than fair, Night Dragon. It's all speculation until the game is released.

Maybe you gave a great speech and inspired them to join you, and thus made you their leader...

I'd be curious to see if there were multiple pathways to becoming the Inquisitor, instead of the same option for everyone.

You know what might be a twist. If the Inquisitor isn't important just for surviving the tear, but for falling out of it when it opened.

i think that would be great if it turned out like that and with certain consequences depending on the path you chose so it wouldn't feel linear

i would assume at political tribunal between many different ruling leaders a decision is made to turn to a impartial spectator who recently completed a impossible feat or survived a impossible scenario and then gets handed the title and duty of Inquisitor

You become the inquisitor after being shot in the head by a sleazy casino owner wearing a checkered suit, you then get ressurected by the water dragon who tells you that you are the spawn of the Lord of Murder and you must save Hoth from the Necromorphs

Well, since the concept art shows hats, my guess is that the characters are given numbers, and the number that is picked out of the hat will be the inquisitor, the rest will be your companions/followers. They will be bickering all game about how you manipulated the lottery.

How would the Inquisitor become the Inquisitor

Bioware wrote him to be one. You can't fight the power of destiny script.

Hopefully you have some credentials other than just being a guy/gal who's good at fighting and/or charismatic. "The Inquisitor" is a role of power that is granted by the Inquisition, not taken like "Hero of Fereldan" or "Champion." It made sense for the heroes of DA:O and DA2 to be competent individuals who took their place in the world through their great deeds alone. They didn't necessarily need a background of nobility or social importance. With the different race options (especially Qunari) and the nature of the role of "Inquisitor," the PC it seems to me must already either have a high diplomatic standing OR superpowers/unnatural insight over controlling the Veil. Or both.

Lets see, the Inquisitor is orphan, with certain mysterious events in his/her past, maybe something to do with parents. Inquisitor was raised by a distant relative, maybe uncle. The events start with unexplained force attacking the relatively isolated place the Inquisitor has lived all his/her childhood. The whole place is destroyed but the Inquisitor is saved by the uncle who seems to know the leader of the attackers. The Inquisitor needs to travel to some far away place, to find some ancient relic + answers to some equally ancient questions. Inquisitor starts the travelling alone, but almost immediately meets someone who happens to go the same way and joins the party...

Uhm... I should stop now.

The Inquisitor went to a magic school for Inquisitors, and happend to find a floating book that said do not touch unless you want a giant green light to rip through the sky, so what dose the idiot do?, he opens the book and then gets struck by lighting giving him super powers of limited possibilities because someone is using a crappy harddrive the end.

Maybe The Inquisitor who open the Veil, then something happen, he/she got blown away or teleported to a desert, as the side effect, he/she lost his/her memory....then he/she wakes up, he/she try to find out who he/she is...that is by becoming inquisitive, because of that people call him/her "Inquisitor"...turn out to be there was an organization with the same name, they thought he/she was a real Inquisitor, so they joined up and investigate things, later it is revealed that he/she,  the "Inquistor",  is the real culprit....

Well, I think there is going to be a lot of progression. For instance, I think starting out, we will become AN Inquisitor... not THE Inquisitor.

Likely, we'll see the Veil Tear. And all kinds to crazy baddies start pouring out. We'll fight with a group of others, seeing first hand the power of these never-before-seen demons and dragons. Our team will either die for being inexperienced (the Jenkins treatment) or wind up sacrificing themselves to allow us to escape (the Gorion treatment).

Then, the Seekes and Cassandra will arrive on the scene. Seeing that we witnessed these new threats firsthand, they come to the PC's aid and escape the city. Being the only one to fight these threats firsthand, Cassandra takes you to meet the head of the Seekers (likely Leliana). Leliana/Other Big Boss realizes this is a new threat which will require the unification of all of Thedas to beat, and says this can't be something that the Seekers as part of the Chantry can handle.

She then declares the Inquisition formed and you, as the resident expert on these new enemies, are joined into their ranks, with Cassandra to accompany you. As events progress, you raise the prestige and reputation of the Inquisition until, tragically, Leliana/Other Big Boss dies, then appointing you as the new leader of the Inquisition.

Boom goes the dynamite.

NOTE - Also, if the Big Boss of the Seekers is Leliana, cue the obligatory "you remind me of someone I used to know, the Hero to Ferelden... I sense their strength in you" line be said.

I imagine Cassandra plays a major role in it. It wouldn't surprise me much if the Seekers become a major part of restoring the order and putting you in the position of power given your first hand experience with the tear.

The inquisitor is actually the town fool who climbed down the well to get his cap that fell from his head while drawing water. While this was happening the veil was torn and every last being was killed. When he climbed out he was like Sandal in fort Drakken and the powers that be thought it was providence that he was spared. He/she is essentially Chance the gardner.
