Aw, Dagna. I wrote her into a story where she filled the role of the party's mage, but used magical objects and The Power of Knowledge instead of, like, actual magic.

I hope she's more than a "resource" too. Maybe a Wade/Herren kind of character? Relatively minor NPC, gives quests, has a personality. You know the drill.

I'm actually kind of wondering about that. It sounds as though her most likely position is as a craft, I wonder what she'd be crafting (of a magical nature) that isn't covered by Wade/Herren and Sandal.

Probably spot on. Or maybe she does non-magic enhancements to your equipment.

I've thought about it a bit more, Sandal seems to specifically focus on weaving lyrium runes into non-magical equipment. However, evidence shows that Dwarves can also make certain nifty magical devices, include control rods and bombs (which are made from lyrium) it could be that she focuses on this more mechanical side of magic-craft, she was originally a smith after all.

I don't see her crafting anything non-magical as magic was such a huge part of her character.

Just wondering...in the demo, I remember the devs talking when you passed by some stuff inscribed on a wall, about how you could take down spells/information you found in caves and have them be translated or use the information.

Maybe she's the one figuring that stuff out.

If that is true that sounds exactly like the sort of job she'd have. Do you have a link to that particular point in the demo?

Based on the phrasing, I suspect she's DAI's Q, probably like the dwarf brothers, Wade, and Herron in Awakening, you bring her stuff, she gives you upgraded equipment. I'd like her to have a larger role than that, though, like....finding clues or information and bringing it to her for plot points.

I worry that she might not be able to be that plot significant, as I suspect her involvement with the Inquisition relies on her having been sent to the Circle. If she is capable of unraveling certain plot points, she'd probably have a replacement character who's relegated to a smaller role when she's not there. Said replacement character can do everything she can, but might require and extra material or two to upgrade certain things, or gives a worse bonus to certain items.

I'd very much like to read that story at some point. 

I've seen the phrasing "techno mage" used in reference to her, someone who fights uses magically boosted devices. I've been rather intrigued by how it could be implemented mechanically in the Dragon Age setting.

Gameranx came out with an article today "confirming" Dagna is in DAI , in the so called 30 minute video and calling her Artificer Dagna".
I was hoping Laidlaw, Perry, or somebody would tweet and confirm it but of course nothing . I'll have to go back and watch the video again. shrugs.

I would love for Dagna to be in DAI. I don;t think she'll be a companion. I woulda loved for either her or Sigrun to be companion. But..if we have our own HQ Keep; not just abunch of Keeps, but someplace that's our HQ's, I could very well see her hanging out there working with us in some capacity.

So, we'd get to talk to her whenever we wanted, and I imagine she has some great knowledge to share.

This is the capacity I'd like to see her serve in the game. If she becomes a regular NPC at the party hub I can see some potential in her becoming an LI a la Traynor and Cortez.

I'm kind of alright with her not being a Companion. Not every character is going to have the combative ability to fill the roll of Companion. Dagna's a very bookish character, and I can see her being better suited staying at the Castle/Party Hub completing magical reasearch to help benefit the Inquisition.

I can't see her being a companion (unless the veil tear or a blood ritual or a trade with a demon or something makes her a mage) since she doesn't look like she can fight... I'm really excited to see her in another kind of role though. LI wouldn't be so bad either... Even if not a companion. I just reeeeeally need some dwarf lovin'.

i thought it was already pretty clear who the companions were. Even still if she was a companion, they could invent something entirely new for her, as they do mention shes a Artificer, which implies she creates artifacts. Im almost certain most of which even if by accidental discovery could be weaponized, also she is the daughter of a smith which implies she was taught the family trade, as well as lyrium smithing as this is one of the things she promises to bring to the Circle, so she is strong enough to wield a hammer, and tough enough to endure the process of folding metal and lyrium.
