People care about characters, and character interactions, two things Bioware has always excelled at.

Romances are in some ways the epitome of these "character interactions" since they tend to be the only way of confirming a particularly strong bond with a certain character.

They also tend to unlock new dialogues with the romanced party, and at times reveal sides of the character that would have otherwise gone unseen.

btw, changing a little bit what do you prefer the most?, good romances or better combat mechanics?


i think because it differentiates chars through diff playthroughs and tends to help further define who the character is.


at least that's how I look at it.  Personally I think dao had it right. You can pursue a romantic subplot or multiple romantic subplots at your leisure and make it go as quick or slow or not at all as you want.  It lets the player define its relevance and importance to the story.
