After overhearing a Turian and a Salarian in the Coucil Tower talking about who was next to be in the council I got this Idea. The Salarian says the Volus is going to be next while the Turian disagrees and thinks it'll be the Hanar and than the Elcor.

I wouldn't mind having a Volus on the council what would you guys want to be apart of the council and who do you think will be the next to be on the council?

To qualify for a council position the species said member is apart of needs a standing army so the Volus are out, as they're a client race of the Turians afterall.

Elcor seem very likely to be next as they're quite a beastly species, mounted guns FTW.

I'm guessing the Volus, as most of the Volus in ME1 constantly grief about becoming council members. If it wasn't for Shep I think they'd beat humans to the council anyway.

No other species is likely to make the council before the end of ME3 but if it was up to me the Quarians would be next.

Honestly, I'm not sure why the volus aren't already on the Council. They only came up with the galactic community's entire economy.

At first I thought so too, but if that were the case why would an in game NPC even mention it if it was already well known. I think if the Volus fought hard enough they could get a spot.

They've been trying to get a council seat for centuries, even with the revolutions they implemented for the Galactic Economy.

It simply won't happen, maybe if they lighten the restrictions a bit.

I hope the Geth turn good near the end of Mass Effect 2.

Imagine Legion as a Councillor.

What do you mean 'new species'? The council is human only.

The Elcor are likely since (as packardbell mentioned) they have a strong military. Honestly, I hope we get to fight alongside some Elcor marines in a joint mission like the one with those Salarian Special Task Group soldiers.

Just imagine how they'd look in armor, carrying heavy weapons like they're pistols.

Elcor aren't very ambitious and seem content with where they are, I don't really see the Hanar as that huge of players in the galaxy, and the Volus are too dependent on the strengths of others like the Turians.

Those are just species that have a part in Citadel Politics that we know of and I don't think any of them are in a postition for a seat on the Council, but the closest would be the Elcor.

If the Quarians can get back to a stable state and can return to Citadel business, they would be a good pick.

We're talking about saving the old council or building up a new one with a Human chairman.

Do Quarians even have an embassy currently? I hope we have the option to bring new species to the council in ME2.

Nope, they were told to leave after the Geth rebelled.

I doubt an all human council would last long anyway.

Especially sense ME2 takes place 2 years after ME1.

Having not done the all-human council ending myself, I don't understand why do the other species of the citadel accept it? I mean, there's plenty of human-haters on the citadel.

I think mainly because most of their fleet near the Citadel is in tatters and because Humanity saw through the crisis, they think their leadership (however temporary) would best to rebuild.

The novelty would worn off by 2 years though, I bet.

Something about the other species being frightened and need the strength of humanity behind it but after two years I can see that stopping, but I'm not even sure if that's true because it came out of Udina's mouth (I think).

It would be a massive kick in the pants for the quarians if that faction of geth with "different beliefs" turns out to be quite formidable and came out to help save the galaxy, and then earned a council seat for it.

I'm all for it.

Kick in the nuts and totally illogical in every sense of the word.

The Battle of the Citadel is still fresh in peoples minds, and geth (rogue faction or no) are geth.

There will be a lot of prejeduice if that happens, possibly Civil War.

The Elcor, only if it's because they're more patient then the Volus ;).

Volus, for the 'feel good for the underdog'.

Quarians, for the epic.

Geth, for the WTF.

Um...that's it. Elcor and Hanar are content how they are. Drell don't seem organized or powerful enough from what we've seen. Krogan...um, yeah. Vorcha are dumb beasts.

EDIT: Just saying, I would want the Quarians as I hope for them to play a good role into ME3. The Geth perhaps eventually as a 'race' in contact with the Citadel (yup, I'm so very Paragon lol), but without an official embassy.

Wait, are drell even part of Citadel space? I know there is Thane on the Asari homeworld, but the species are from the Traverse, right?
