No wonder the Keep was taken.

But we're talking about the girl who moves in heavy armor like a ninja.

I think you mean battle-trained warrior.

The current holder of the Mary-Sue of the century title.

Mary-Sue? Hahaha, if it were a MALE who broke down that door you would call it badass. Get over yourselves.

I thought it was tad bit ridiculous myself to see her smashing down the steel gate with just her shield. It's stupid and illogical, and it will be the downfall of this game if BioWare allows to be in the final product.

Cassandra is NOT an Ogre. How can her shield possibly demolished a steel gate? Doesn't make any sense.

If you want to get rid of the door smashing, you have to get rid of all the other ridiculously strong and powerful moves the player is able to accomplish.

Who cares if players are able to break down a door... you can suspend your disbelief for everything else that goes on, but not this?

Breaking down a metal gate on a castle. Different than a normal door. If this is all it takes, every siege would be over in 2 minutes.

It's one thing that some people might not like. Don't you think it's a little silly to call it the "downfall of the game"?

Actually I have the feeling he'd say Marty-Stu or something equivelant. I don't agree with him, but I don't think he's being sexist either.

Actual knights were able to move around fairly quickly in plate armor; besides the fact that it's much lighter than most people think(the average suit of platemail is lighter than compat gear worn by modern soldiers), it's designed to be moved in and said knights are trained to move in it. They know how to move so that the armor doesn't impede them.

I'm not familiar with that subject so I take your word for it. However, if we bring realism into it than all I can say is: watch DotS. The beginning is enough for me to roll my eyes on how she moves through these mages.

Lol.. So it's ok you can shoot fire out of your hand or from a wooden staff because it's magic and you cant bash off a gate with brute strength and it's not logic?

Well if anything to make for realism cost more work. It can easily be reworked by better animations of Cassandra using her ability that shows a transparent battering ram crashing down the gates? Anyhow the results are the same. No point wasting too much effort on it where it can be spent elsewhere.

No it would be just as stupid. Wich is why I used Alistair as an example further up.

Rawgrim didn't watch Dawn of the Seeker.

The only thing that surprised me about the door demolition skill was that I didn't expect BioWare to keep with how Cassandra was established Dawn of the Seeker, not that she demolished the door.

Again: Magic is explained and it is part of the lore. In Thedas mages can shoot fire out of their hands. Its in all the games. Nowhere in the codex or anyone else is it explained that people have superhuman strength.

I'd like it if it was doors. Doors I can handle.

Gates, though... I wish there was a middle ground there. Even if the gate is solid wood... wood is not easily broken. Especially three-foot-thick gates like what would be guarding a keep.

So I lie on the "silly" camp more than the "that's cool" camp.

Its not the dowfall of the game at all. But given the stick they got from the awsomme button, one would think they would try and avoid silly things like this.

I agree with the OP, not so much on the basis of realism but for game logic. One warrior should not be able to bash a 20 foot barricaded gate in. A mage's spell should be required.

Maybe they did it for the demo? It might not make the final cut, or maybe you have to level up alot before being able to smash things like that?

...this again? You know ..war cry with superiority knocked enemies of the ir feet. Why didn't you complain about that then? Or is a shout that knocks people down, more realistic that Cassandra knocking over the keeps door.

Oh, I've seen DotS and agree that it is horrible. Way too over the top even by this series' standards, along with just being kind of meh in general. That being said I'm more inclined to blame the over the top nature of DotS on being an anime as that medium has a paralyzing phobia of subtly.

Then again, what is and isn't over the top is subjective, I suppose. The stuff she does in DotS annoyed me, but that gate? Not so much.

My view on this is that if we can accept a world where people can call down fire from the heavens with a mere thought, why is it so hard to accept that some people can be exceptional in other ways? Just because the codex doesn't mention specific feats does not mean they aren't possible. And that's not even going I to how gameplay is often divorced from what we see in the story/cutscenes.

Remember when people complained about the silly DA2 combat? Same thing here.

Remember when the same people hand wave all the silly things in DAO? Oh wait its happening right here right now.

Thedas is not the Marvel universe you say? Explain the superhuman gymnastics warriors and rogues can do on the top of a live dragons head, a warrior shouting and knocking people over, a song literally have a physical impact making allies stronger and enemies weaker, fire not roasting a plate wearer alive inside the armor, being frozen solid and walking away like it was nothing more then a cold breeze afterwards.

Hell why are their even armies when our PC and companions can cut thru them as they will.

Sorry but this franchise has always been rule of cool.

Perhaps if it was shown that the gate was already weakened/buckled before Cassandra boots it with her shield. I assumed it was supposed to be (considering that the fort is under attack).

I hope its removed entirely in the final product. Leveling up to do it won`t make it less silly either.

I agree that it seems over the top. However, I managed to overlook it in NWN, for instance, so I guess I can manage here too.

The codex doesn`t mention spaceships and submarines either. Would it be cool if those showed up?

I did complain about that too. On the DA:O forum...
