I've used it on Arcane Horrors several time and it never seemed to prevent them from casting spells. I think the ability is supposed to last 20 seconds, but they start casting spell sometimes right after I use the ability. Is there a visible effect showing that a unit is silenced. I play on a PC. Is this ability bugged?
Does Silence (Templar ability) work?

Unless I am mistaken, there is in fact a visual effect, the enemy will havw a white hue around them (I have not really played using a Templar in a while), I am going based on memory and how Carver kept Meredith silenced the entire fight, keeping her from using her charge up attacks.

Sometimes. It never works against Boss level enemies, but I have had some success with using it against Elite or Normal-ranked enemies.

it works, but its effectiveness depends on the enemy type. in theory the "silence" effect is supposed to have a duration of 20 seconds, but that's only accurate regarding lower level enemies. elite and above will be more resistant.
just like casting Horror on an elite or higher enemy only stuns them for a few seconds rather than the entire duration given in the spell's desciption.

You're better off taking the righteous strike passive. couple that with primeval lyrium rune and or fervor passive and/or haste and you can Perma silence ANY enemy including Meredith. The reaver templar build is my favorite enemy trolling build.

I have had better luck using silence on human mages than emissaries and demon spellcasters. Silence doesn't work at all on innate abilities. For instance, that stupid globe of invulnerability is going to show up no matter what as well as the ability of some casters to teleport. I've found it most helpful preventing initial damage-dealing attacks like crushing prison and fireball. It helps, of course, to have played the game often enough to know which casters are going to be casting those spells so I can pop a silence off before the caster gets started.....:innocent:
