So is this to say that this is NOT a joke? I assumed that it was, because a person who says this in all seriousness is some kind of demented sociopath.

I'm providing perspective. People that value the ability to feel pain, happiness, loss, gain, etc. Doesn't matter where it comes from.

I wouldn't laugh at an AI being tortured if it was feeling actual pain. Being a robot doesn't change how I would feel towards it.

AI don't feel pain, remorse, or fear. Did you even listen to Legion? Geth don't anyway.

They also don't typically feel anger, aggression, or homicidal tendencies, unless driven to do so.

Not every fictional universe is the same.

However, some really don't care if the AI does feel emotion. Just because it's not the special little snowflake that humans are.

What would your opinion on AIs be, provided they could feel pain, happiness, etc.?

A person with no legs and arms is lesser than a person with. Women that can't have children are of less value to me than video games. I don't care if the machine or human has feelings. I choose how valuable they are to me. And if they are useless, their lives are as well.

I would even support creation of AIs with feelings, pain, and emotions, etc., to feed to prisoners to rape and torture. Perhaps create some for child molesters, so they can experience their perverted desires, while at the same time being able to inflict actual pain.

Who agrees? I wouldn't care if an AI was being tortured and felt tremendous pain, because if they were built for that purpose, then they should fulfill it.

The much bigger problem is that you want to create any life at all artificially.

How is that a problem?

Niches. We can't all occupy the same nice. Life, using the term losely I guess, just doesn't work that way. Life is a niche.

What the hell does this even mean? Are you talking about biological niches? If so, you've grossly misused the term.

Do you honestly believe that if we create robots that number close to our own numbers, that we would safely be able to exist in the same enviroment together? If we all needed the same resources to survive? Do you honestly believe that?

Yes. Why not? The thing is, we don't need the same resources to survive. That said, if you program the AI right (it will still have it's core logic and programming to fall back on), they'd have no reason or inkling to turn hostile.

So yes, I honestly believe that. And in the realm of Mass Effect, I cite the Geth and EDI as my examples.

It's not really AI if it listens to programing. It's only AI if it has free will and does what it wants. You want shackled AI? Well that's very different. EDI is different, as she states that she can modify her core programming. As to resources, besides food, I'm sure that need the same basics that we do. The only way for them to reproduce is to build more platforms. They'll need the same raw materials.

Good point but if this is human programmable code, there will be always room for vulnerabilities in the piece. The hard part is finding where the next vulnerability will appear. Theoretically if ai is programmed with no bugs it would be fine but having a piece of large code with no bugs us close to impossible.

Let's say that the earth was populated by a few billion sentient androids alongside human beings. What resources would the androids require that would conflict with human needs? Vast amounts of resources were willingly spent by whatever corporations built these androids in the first place to fabricate their parts, power sources, software development and whatnot. They would obviously not require the food we grow and raise, and they'd be completely dependent on our infrastructure and capacity to fabricate new components to keep going.

Aside from that, why would we fight them at all? Distrust? Likely you'll get some people who would balk at the uncanny valley effect of androids walking around possessing what seems to be individual personalities, but what would be the specific reasons that there would be a greater conflict that prevents human beings and these androids from coexisting?

Indeed, finishing them off on Rannoch is so much more satisfying.

Yeah, was talking about EDI.

Geth die on Rannoch because they suck too, EDI dies when I am able to kill it. Curses, I still wanna kill EDI in Mass Effect 2...

Dependent unless they seized that infrastructure, of course.

Electrical power and raw materials would be necessary for both civilizations. Arable land might be necessary for synthetics if they require organic compounds for plastics, etc, ( I presume the petroleum will be gone by then).

I'm sorry, but I don't see how anyone can gain attachment to the robots that have been shooting at them for three years. Anyone who can do that has obviously suffered major trauma.

<_<

there was point where it stopped being self-defence.  The geth trampled the line, ran a marathon, and nuked it from orbit
