Lol, what the hell for? If the Normandy didn't have a full-fledged AI on board, the Collectors would've taken the entire crew and probably destroyed the ship. A normal VI system would have been totally hijacked by the IFF viral trap and Joker would've been helpless. She's been nothing but useful for the entirety of ME2 and at a pretty pivotal point in ME3.
And if Cerberus didn't bring Shepard back, he would be dead...
I can still dislike Cerberus for what it is, no matter what they did. Same goes for EDI.
EDI is a waste of space, and I would rather lose the SR2 than have EDI on my ship.

Wow, I leave this post for a day and come back to see thirteen pages of posts. There are lots of interesting debates going on here.
First off, I'm gonna say that some of your guys views sadden me. EDI is not an AI. Its intelligence is not artificial, at least not if you are using artificial as a synonym for fake. It is fully self-aware and has the ability to learn and grow. I'm just wondering: to all of you EDI haters did you go through all (if any) of the conversations with it on the Normandy? It can be really philosophical at times and also asks you some very human questions. And if you play the Citadel DLC that is even moreso. If you ignore its overtly-sexualized appearance away you can find a truly amazing tool (same goes for Miranda in some ways.)
Sure, it may not be alive in a physical way, as it cannot die in a typical sense, nor does it have genes nor the ability to give birth. Yet at the same time it is "mentally" alive and while that may be against it created purpose, you can't take that away from a thing. Have you guys seen the Kara video by the Heavy Rain creator? That is a perfect example of what I'm saying right now.
The Enhanced Defense Intelligence is a valuable asset, not a person.
Regarding David Cage's latest bowel movement.
1. If you played Indigo Prophecy or Heavy Rain you would realize what kind of a hack he really is.
2. Malfunctioning or defective equipment need to replaced, no expectations.
The Geth are nothing more than malfunctioning equipment and need to be deactivated.

If the catalyst said that Destroy would kill the Asari instead, would you still do it? Turians? Humans?
I can't stand EDI dying without warning, without a goodbye. Boom, dropped dead when the wave from the Crucible hit her. It would have been worse than what Legion got. And those who know me know that Legion's death hit me harder than any death in videogames.

How come that the death of a tin can, that potentially will wipe out your allies' entire race without remorse, affected you that much?

In Mass Effect Lore, Artificial life was replaced with Synthetic life to shut up the politically correct crowd.KaiserShep wrote...
What meaningful difference is there between "synthetics" and "artificial life"? They're pretty much the same thing.

Seems silly to even dwell on it. If someone uses the term synthetic, what point is it to alter their post in a quote to read it as you see fit? It seems to serve no other purpose than to be obnoxious.

Sounds like the bridge would be the perfect place to open the airlock. You're telling me the Sr-1 could seal off portions, but the SR-2 couldn't?KaiserShep wrote...

Do you discard tools because of the way they look? The Enhanced Defense Intelligence is a valuable intelligence processing system and warfare suite, but that's all it is.Dextro Milk wrote...

At the start of ME3, I would trade the program for a dozen well disciplined intelligence and electronic support officers, the Defense Intelligence already betrayed its original masters, what's stopping it from betraying me? Its word? HA.

Okay, I know this may sound weird for me to defend EDI, but that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. That's stupid Blade logic.General TSAR wrote...

Except it wouldn't be the perfect place to open it, because the Collectors were coming through the lower decks, and moving their way up through the elevator. A Praetorian comes out of the elevator. A Praetorian can be seen in engineering through the tech lab. And again, I must reiterate that the Normandy's helm controls were offline. He had no means to purge the system himself. EDI had to do this, since she was the only entity aboard the ship capable of managing the ship's core functions once unshackled. Even if Joker managed to open that one airlock and seal himself off in the bridge, the Collectors would have taken the rest of the crew, and once they were all disembarked, they would have destroyed the ship, and that would've been it.
