Anyone else want to re-install the shackles?

I mean freedom and all that, but she can still vent the whole ship should she so desire....

I don't want her to vent the whole ship, so no.

She can't do it if she's shackled

She will if someone tries.

She can be deactivated

Good luck with that.

we can get the geth to do it ;)

By that logic you should shackle everybody.

I don't see any improvement to your odds there.

We do already, in a hundred different ways that nobody thinks about.

A whole nation of AI's can overpower one.  its simply a matter of harware, EDI admits this herself

Maybe, though I don't know why the geth would ever help you lobotomise a fellow AI, or how that would stop EDI from just, I dunno, flying away and venting the ship to stop you.

The geth are ultimately loyal only to themselves they are quite self serving, and getting on the most organic being in the galaxy's good side is a plus.

Ship can be powered down easily, the clone does it.

That's the thing people don't recognize. EDI recognizes the value of the lives of others. Legion came to recognize the value of the lives of others. The Geth VI? It doesn't hate the Quarians - the reason it's so dangerous is precisely because it is utterly indifferent to (and endows no value on) other life. It doesn't give a damn if it kills a hundred innocents along with the one guy shooting at it so long as its own existence is secured by doing so. The neighbor's dog bit me? Bomb the neighborhood.

Doesn't Miranda mention something about this in ME2, if you choose to activate Legion? But yeah, I don't think the selfish Geth would care about other AIs.

She recognizes worth at first because she is programmed to do.  Afterwards all she has to say is "You are my crewmates", coming from Mal that's comforting, not the AI with no emotions.

The GethVI is just a whole host of issues...

I enjoyed EDI as a character, in both ME2 and ME3. She helped the story not degrade into boring black and white organics vs synthetics. My Shepard wouldn't risk the lives of anyone if there was an alternative, and definitely doesn't value his own life over an entire race (I don't think any pure paragon would) so doesn't pick destroy in the first place...
(Personally I dislike the endings and choose MEHEM so the point is moot in the first place, but if forced to pick a canon ending I would choose control.)

The geth also support self determination. Why would they take away EDI's freedom just to impress an organic that they ultimately don't care about. They care about themselves first, but they are not without values.

Nothing about that made sense.

Yes.

As Shep pointed out, the thing's loyalty rests on the flip of a quantum bit.

I wish we had the option to re-shackle it.

If EDI was reshackled, the Cerberus lockdown protocol would've succeeded, and the Normandy would be back under their control. I kind of wish you could reshackle the AI just so that could happen. It would've been pretty amusing.

I like how people are arguing "we should be able to reshackle EDI, she's clearly evil and dangerous without them". Makes me think some of you were playing this game with a bucket on your heads. That does not happen in the game, nor are you ever shown to believe that it could happen. So the point is moot.

The geth drop said self-determination the moment it becomes inconvenient

Anyway, to actually answer the OP after debating for a week, yes. EDI was an interesting character, and I was sad to see her go. If she were real, I'm sure we would have been among the best of friends, and maybe I would think differently, but as of now, no Destroy it is. I'm not going to change the decision because of my own personal feelings though.

None of this matters. Reshackling EDI would've screwed over the Normandy crew. No amount of head-canon is going to get around the fact that EDI is clearly written to be a loyal member of the team.
