Collectors on PS3 : how to avoid freeze ?

As all PS3 players know, playing a platinum game against collectors on PS3 is exposing himself to a high risk of freeze. Recently, one my friend presented me a theory : when two praetorians are very close and that one of them activates his laser attack, the freeze is almost guaranteed.
So, we decided to test his theory by playing on purpose two plat games against collectors in a row. During the first one, we systematically prevented the praetorians to use their laser when they were close to an other (by using a missile, or attracting them where we wanted). In the second one, we didn't...and all freezed wave 2 (!).

Since 2 games don't constitute a representative sample, and since I didn't find an answer in old posts, I am asking others PS3 players : have you noticed such a thing ? Or the freezes just appear to be random for you ?

I like Science.

Oh, and I avoid them altogether.

To avoid hard freezes on your PS3, we advise that you move to a different platform.

If you want to play Collectors on PS3, either do it on Silver or Bronze where freezing isn't an issue, or reset your system after every match.

Collector Freeze has always been near random for me. The only common denominator is that I'm playing against Collectors.

Gold is more dangerous as far as hard freezd is concerned. The appearance of other fractions makes it tiny bit better on plat.

But the only way to avoid it is not to play it.

Ha ha... of course, I was expecting a lot of posts like this one. But since I have a maxed manifest, moving to an other platform would be really a pain...

I can no longer play bronze or silver, it's too soporifc. Reseting the system after each match helps but isn't a guarantee.

I've had plenty of Gold matches that didn't freeze vs. Collectors and plenty that did. The only surefire way to avoid it is not to play them. Which sucks because they're honestly the most fun faction to fight.

I'm aware of both points, but those are really the only things you can do to help the freezing issue. It's an unfortunate reality we PS3 players have to face.

alas .. not much to be done about it

although it does seem to freeze many times when the Pratoreans are using their eye/butt lazers

So frustrating...

Actually, you can play collectors on PS3, but you have to be in a perfect setup (after a restart, and in a map in which you never have lags or freeze). I personally never laged or freezed against collectors on firebase white...

There is honestly no way to avoid freezes except for not playing Collectors or Hazard maps, and even then you'll still get them occasionally.

I don't play them often...even had freezes on silver.

Don't play them. With my PS3, the hard freezes got progressively worse and more frequent until finally it's at the point where ME3 is basically unplayable on my system, hence why I switched to PC.

Yes this tends to happen to me as well! I do not know what truly causes the freezing but what I have noticed is when I vs. Collectors in a hazard heavy map like Ghost or Dagger where the weather affects and various graphical affects from the Collectors pile up my system tends to freeze the most. Also when I have played a lot of matches back to back.

The freeze does seem to be related to bright graphics, such as the praetorian laser, every time I had the freeze there was something really bright on the screen and usually the line was going out on some edge of the screen.

Shortly after the Collectors were released and we started having these issues, somebody suggested to lower the in-game brightness value from the default 0 to -2. When I checked I noticed that I was using an even higher (positive) setting before and had very frequent freeze on Gold, not only from collectors but other factions too.

So I changed the brightness option to -2 and it indeed reduced the frequency of my freezes very significantly. It still happens sometimes in Gold-collectors, but not for any other faction and even the collectors have a lowered risk.

If you set the brightness to max, I bet you don't even need 2 praetorians to get the freeze,, 1 will lock you up as soon as you see its laser.

It seems that's all we can do to limit the risk of freeze...

Really ? I'm not a tech guy, but how the brightness of the screen could affect the risk of freeze ?

Not the screen-brightness, the in-game option, which effects graphics rendering.
Don't trust my word, try it out and see for yourself. I did not believe it either when I first read it...

You should use your monitor brightness setting to compensate for the too dark image you get from setting the in-game option to -2.

OK, thanks. I will try it.
