I mean, she's a member of the ruling royal family of Nevarra, high ranking member of the Seekers, Hero of Orlais, Right Hand of the Divine.....

She's gotta have access to resources and influence and stuff like that.

Maybe she should be leading the Inquisition. Being our boss kinda.

What makes the Player so special?

EDIT: I AM NOT SAYING WE SHOULD BE PLAYING AS CASSANDRA. Maybe the Player could've been her Second-In-Command Inquisitor. Maybe Cassandra can be Lord / High Inquisitor and the Player can be just plain Inquisitor or something. I dunno. I totally get the appeal of playing as the leader of the Inquisition.

Then we wouldn't be able to romance Cassandra. Well, probably.

The Inquisitor is quite the cunning linguist, if Cassandra wanted to "talk strategy" in private.

Because I suspect most people want to create their own character.
Because Bioware wants to sell its game
Because not everyone likes Cassandra or wants to plays as her
Because a case could be made for Hawke, the Warden, Leliana, or any number of other characters, to be the Inquistor.
Others?

She probably has too many loyalties to the Chantry/Seekers to be considered independent enough to run the inquisition.  Especially considering the Chanty and Seekers are split off from each other (at least, I think they are.  I know Templars are split off but I thought I saw somewhere the Seekers split off too).

I don't think that question can be answered until the game is released and people play it. It also ruins the whole "make your own character" thing.

Since the Inquisition exists outside of the Chantry, her title as Right Hand of the Divine is going to be useless. The leader of the Seekers, Lambert? Something like that, has gone rogue from the Chantry too, and I fully expect that he will be an enemy so her Seeker title is also null. All Speculation, mind you.

Now, the hier, well Sebastian and Alister weren't the leader of their little groups, so Cassy won't either.

As for Hero of Orlais... I don't know about that.

If so then DA:I will turn into the Witcher: No character customization, which sucks btw. I like the witcher's story and all, but the fact that I have to play as Geralt took away a great deal of fun.

I'll let you get the next one.

To answer the OP; deniability. The inquisitor might have to do some dasteredly things to get the job done, and they might screw up. You put this new face who's only claim to fame is demonstrating a remarkable ability to not die around ripes in the viel of time and space in charge, and disavow any responsibility for his/her actions if things go wrong.

Meanwhile you place your loyal number two as the new guy's right hand to keep an eye on things and steer them in the right direction.

The OP isn't asking why aren't we playing as Cassandra, but rather, why isn't Cassandra our boss.

Because if I'm reading the story's premise right, Cassandra wasn't there when it all went down. Your character is the lone survivor of the cataclysmic veil-tearing event and something tells me that will end up being important.

For exactly that reason. No one would see the inquisition as anything but the strong arm of the chantry enforcing chantry rule.

The protagonist in DA:I was at ground zero (if I'm heard it right) and special in someway.

Also, from the gameplay. Cassandra seem to be a second in command like Miranda in ME2.

You guys are also neglecting that forming the Inquisition may well be the player character's idea and Cassandra may simply not have thought of it on her own.

I have wondered this as well OP. I'm curious to see the in game reasoning behind your character being the leader while seemingly more qualified people follow you.
