Inflated ego.
Miranda can be arrogant at times, but it isn't without justification when it comes to her intelligence. She managed a project that ended with the greatest medical breakthrough in human history. While I don't believe much about her background prior to Cerberus was revealed, she'd have to either have a science or medical background. And she certainly wouldn't found her way onto that project unless she had both the skillset and intelligence to manage it.
In terms of intelligence she is somewhere in the top 3 of all your organic squadmates. The other two would be Mordin (he'd be #1 on my list) and Liara, both of whom are also scientists.

Powerful is not synonymous with badass. I never said Liara was not powerful, I'm saying that she isn't badass.
If strength or power is not linked to being bad@ss, than what exactly is bad@ss?

Also, there is a difference between being synonymous, and being linked.bad·ass
/ˈbadˌas/
Noun
A tough, aggressive, or uncooperative person

Especially the Thessia mission. And she's moaning about her home world burning. I was like "****, Earth has been burning for weeks.. So has Palaven. Give it a rest".
Anyway, as many have said, if you break up with Miranda in ME2 she will not die in ME3. As long as you support her in her quest. Also, you must meet with her all 3 times. If you miss one meet she'll die (it's tragic too).

Oh ! Ok, when i can break up with Miranda ? Later in the party ? After Horizon ?
The lock in for both romances is when they ask for you to meet them at the Presidium after Citadel 2. Just string both of them along until then if you want Miranda to survive.
Assuming you didn't break up in ME2 and want to friendzone her in ME3, say you still want her in your life in the first meet up. Then the Citadel coup happens. Make sure you talk to Anderson about and read the dossier on Kai Leng BEFORE the second meet up. In the second Miranda meet up, doing the prior sentence will make Shepard warn her. After Citadel 2, Miranda will ask to meet you again. She will first ask for a favor to give her access to resources, say yes. Later on this conversation is the romance lock up. Choose the bottom option.
During all of that, you are, of course, also stringing Liara along. I believe you can decide what order to meet them after Citadel 2 as the e-mails arrive around the same time. If not, just do some side quests until you get the e-mails. If you meet Miranda first, there is no outright 'break up' but just you deciding not to make a move. If you meet up with Liara first and lock that in, then you just simply don't have the option to make a move on Miranda. There's really no major change.
TL;DR Version:
Meeting 1: Dock - "Nothing's changed." then "What can I do?" when she talks about her father
Meeting 2: Spectre Terminal - Talk to Anderson and read Kai Leng dossier BEFORE meeting Miranda
Meeting 3: Presidium - "I trust you." then "What's done is done." to avoid romance / Go lock in with Liara
Meeting 4: Sanctuary - Paragon or Renegade convince her father.
Profit.

by a country mile. I don't know what it is, but that blue thing is just creepy and its eyes stare right through you while it consumes your soul.
Now, I need to recover from the trauma of googling ME characters. Especially Liara. I'll probably never google Liara again.
