The campaign journal is still called module.jrl. The difference is that it's located in the campaign folder, not the module folder.  (Or module file, if you're not using directory mode.)

A means of checking whether there is a module.jrl in your module (I guarantee there is -- there always is) without using directory mode is to open the module file with NWN2packer to view its contents.

As I understand it, which may possibly be incorrect, is that the journal files are only there for the text that displays in the in-game journal. The actual tracking of the journal stages is done with local variables on the PC. That's why you can have journal updates being tracked properly even when there is no quest text in the journal display.

I think this might solve the issue and if that's how a journal works this would show where PJ156's thing has gone wrong it's the text files that are missing and possibly that folder so if there's a module.jrl in his override/campaign folder somewhere that would overwrite the real one from the new module.. Time to investigate Mr156 just move your campaign journal (module.jrl) into your override and see if it says you've already got one or if it makes a difference.

But it still doesn't explain why I can play a stand alone test module of one of my campaign modules and still read the journal when I've put nothing in the module journal and started it as a module not a campaign.. Weird !

I looked into the setup and I think it correct.

I have set up another campaign and module and that works fine. So I am going to try to transfer the assets of the campaign and module then set up the journal again and see if that cures things.

I fixed it :)

I need to re set up the journal in the new campaign but I keep all the entries in excel anyway. I am not going to copy paste the old journal. I know it should work but I'm not risking it.

I think the issue is this - this is guesswork so correct me if and where I'm wrong.

The script that updates the journal log and keep the integer assoicated with the journal is not the one that pulls in the text. That gave me a false idea of the problem as the journal was updating as an integer and ginving me a blank copy but no pulling i the text, therefore I assumed there was nothing wrong with the way I set up the campaign.

Actually what I thin I did was overwrote the module.fac and resources files when I copied the assets across. this time I was careful not to. So, while the module could see the campaign assets in the tool set it was not correctly linked up in play and the module files were trying to look elsewhere for the text.

Could all be guff but it is fixed and I can move on.

Thanks for the time everyone.

Well you've completely lost me with your module facs and resource files but at least it works and that's what matters !
