For all the flack I'm sure I'm about to get for posting yet another thread that discusses Cole, there's been surprisingly quite the lack of him really mentioned at all, in some time. That said, I'm beginning to believe he will be the next companion. Though, it will no doubt be interesting in how he appears.

For those who have read Asunder, you know that Cole can't be seen by too many people, if at all. But he could be seen when they went to the fade. And now that the fade has come to Thedas, through the tear in the veil, there's no doubt he's been revealed to everyone, completely. I wonder how that will work out for his rogue abilities...

Personally I was considering the next companion to be Evangeline, mostly. Because we know we need at least one templar in our party, to fend off evil mages. And I think it would be interesting having her, considering she's a templar with untapped potential now open, due to having the fade spirit inside her, and the fade being right there around her.

Adrian is a bit too hot headed for my taste, and Rhys, well... seriously... how many mages will we have in our party? But really, Rhys, I think he'll be too busy running the rebellion to really be able to traipse off and join our Inquisition.

Also, side note: I'd love to have Shale back.

As much as I would love to have Evangeline as a companion, if we are having a templar companion it'll most likely be Cullen before her.

This is all based on Gaider saying someone from asunder will be a companion right?

I think that Cole could be a very interesting companion, and I would like to have him as one. I think Evangeline will likely stay with Rhys and help him with the rebellion. As for the Templar spot I hope that Cullen gets it.

For me, Cole was just plain creepy.

I'll pass on having him as a companion.

IF he is a compaion, I want the Litany in my combat wheel.

Partly, yes. Though, the name Cole was familiar to many of us, far before Asunder came out. Or was it about the same time as the leaked survey?

It would seem as though Rhys and Evangeline would be a package deal. If we got one as a companion, we'd probably get the other. (And for those that obsess over romances, you'd probably not be able to romance either since they're together.) Well, I supposed unless something terrible happened to one of them. I think it's a lot more likely we'd get Cole as a companion, especially since everything wasn't revealed about his character yet. Shale would also be a potential, but a lot less likely.

As for Cole, I think by the end of the book, he has a lot more control over what he can do since he understands what he is a little better. Whether the Fade tear has an effect or not, we sure won't find out anytime soon. (sad face) And for those that say his character's mechanics would be overpowered in the game, I'm sure the game designers will make it work, have some faith.

(Spoilers) How would Cole work? He is a fade spirit. It would only work if they could make us the player forget he is a companion every time we take him out of our party.

Tbh the more stuff I read the less sure I am of who is going to be in the party.

I am pretty sure allot of characters have been considered and that's why there are concepts of characters who wont be and none of some who will be.

Cole died; all that remains is a demon. The Inquisition is formed to fight demons - so I don't see how Cole could work as a party member?

But he won't be forgotten, because he can be seen in the fade. And the fade is all around Thedas, due to the tear.

Cole is a miniboss, calling it.

He may be like DA:A Justice, a spirit posessing a dead body. Or he may be like DA2 Anders, two entities sharing a body, but where Anders was dominant in that relationship, the spirit might be more dominant in Cole [since he's confused a lot, detatched from reality, but also more mature/understanding (especially after the end of the book) than the original "Cole"].

People said the same thing about Legion, and he was by far one of the best characters.

Yup - makes more sense if he's a antagonist rather than party member.

I hope we can decide if we don't want someone as companion or in our group.

i would argue that Cole is not a Demon.  Or ateast did not start out as one.  He was a spirit that came to the real Cole as he lay dying and forgotten to try and ease his pain.  The. When Cole died the spirit was trapped in the real world and forgot everything but Cole.  So by the end of Asunder I would say he is warped into a spirit of Vengance.

Mr.Gaider speaks true. It was Chris Bane during PAX.

Anyway, Cole seems to be the more likely choice. Unlike with Adrian, Rhys or Evangeline he hasn't throw his lot in with one of the factions (not to mention Rhys and Evangelina probrably go together) and he is more unique than all of them.

You may be thinking of a post by a fan on Twitter who said they took notes from the PAX presentation. The written note said a protagonist from Asunder would show up. And she assured us she also heard it would be as a companion.

Oh come now, Mr. Gaider, you should be use to us fans remembering more then you. That and putting words in your mouth and making you think you said them. Just think, you'll never have to worry about Alzheimer's with your beloved fans keeping a memory bank of what you have said. I'm sure there are fans who know what you are going to say even before you do.

BTW: You also told me last year you make me a pumpkin pie and wash my car. I'm still waiting. :P

I recall you mentioning something about it when someone asked, though, your response might have been just as vague, and possibly posed as a question as well. :P

I rather not have Cullen as a companion. He isn't all that bright. His lack of intellgience would be the downfall of my inquisition organzation if he was allowed to toggle along.

And as far as Evangeline goes I haven't yet read Asunder so I have no comments.
