The written note said a protagonist from Asunder would show up. And she assured us she also heard it would be as a companion.

Ah, that makes sense. Chris says someone from Asunder would show up, and that leads to me having said someone from Asunder will be a companion.

Whew! I was confused there, for a moment. :)

We all know you're both the same person. You're not fooling us, Priestly!

Even though the supposition has been deflated to an extent, I still support the idea of Cole as a companion. He seems like he would be very interesting to converse with and his character trajectory would be neat to follow.

Even though he was largely invisible in during the events of Asunder, it doesn't mean Mr. Gaider and company couldn't find some excuse for him to be partially or completely visible in some form or another. They are really only limited by the fertility of their own collective imagination.

2.While a killer, the people who he kill wanted him to do it.

That's what demons always say.

When did he ever defended himself about it? I got this by seeing the actions and reactions of the people he killed. Heck, one flat out asked him to kill him after Cole offered to free him form the circle.

Less the fact of saying and more that's simply how demons operate. They prey on those feelings. Desire demons give what you want. Pride demons fulfill ego. Sloth demons help you relax. And those who are particularly moved by those emotions are the most vulnerable to the demon.

Cole is no different. He may be a despair demon, preying on those who have lost hope.

They do that to feed and posses people. Not to flat out kill them. Remember, the goal of a demon is to posses a host. Cole does not do that. And even then he later regretes the killing and stops doing it. Add, Demon don't force the feeling of a person, they only manipulate what's there. If you have nothing to lust for a desire demon can't effect you.
Those people had to have despair first in order to be effected by Cole. If they were already in great despair, they already want to die way before Cole shows up.
And even then he stop doing that and became a spirit of compassion.

Considering we read from his POV and actually see he couldn't control his actions at the time,  feels pain if he doesn't kill and all his victims wanted to die, it's actually understandable. Also he has no memory of his past so he has actually no idea that killing people is wrong. After Rhys catches him, we never see him kill random people again anyway.

If I'm willing to accept Zevran and Leliana, who killed with their own free will and feel that murdering is A-OK, then I can safely trust Cole.

And Sten, and worse: Anders. A whole tower full of innocents? (I murder knifed him every playthrough because of that) Cole? Regardless if he's a demon or not, he pales in comparison.

Edit: actually, most of the companions have a lot of innocent murders. Fenris: Fog Warriors, Isabella: boatful of slaves, etc. etc.

The only reason a demon possesses a host is so that it can enter the mortal realm. Once they've arrived, possession is not a priority.

The Desire Demon in the tower wasn't trying to possess the Templar. Cole similarly had already arrived. So he instead preyed and fed.

Of course it's still a priority...Remember, Kitty. They still want to posses a host. And they rather keep them alive to feed of them, like the Desire demon in the fereldin circle.
Cole flat out killed people. Then stopped out of guilt.

Mr.Gaider speaks true. It was Chris Bane during PAX.

After the kind of companions we had in the first two games, having a leech seems pretty normal to me.

Guilt. I think this is the biggest indicator that he may not be a "demon". Or, like I said before, he's special and he's "uncorrupting" into some other trait. Just like how Justice degraded into Vengeance, but opposite. Perhaps Despair into Hope? Or he could just be a spirit of mercy or something. The spirit of Valor will kill you, why is it so weird that mercy might too?

Sure why not? Hopefully we can influence him to become a better person or become a full killer.

Leaked survey snippet for Cole *if not obsolete*:

Cole- A long time ago, a young man died a cruel death in a dark place. And now, somehow, there is Cole. Was he a spirit or a demon? Is he human now? Cole is not sure it matters any more. Hounded by memories that aren't his own, invisible in a world he can stalk like a shadow, the rogue must decide between joining the living or preying upon them.

Yeah, I mentioned this earlier too. Though, I didn't know if we were allowed to quote such things. <_<;;

Despire to compassion to be more accurate. I think demonism is an extreme of a Vurtue. Compassion is where you feel sorry for others and Despire is where you feel sorry for yourself.  Like Justice  punish the wicked and Vengence where you're enrages by those that wronged you and Faith where  you belive in something  is true  with out proof and Pride where you always think your right no matter what proof in on hand.

Yeah, much like the mass killer Cole, and the legion of mages that were possessed and caused rampant destruction.  The next one just might be fine though right?

I want to point out that we also might all be wrong and he's something completely new. An anomaly. The lifeforce from the people he kills may in fact keep him from becoming non-existent. However he came into being might have cursed him so he won't go to the Fade when he "dies" but instead just ceases to exist. Or you know, other crazy stuff Gaider might have come up with. We won't know for a while. But still, do want as a companion. I want to know what he is. o.O

Edit: He's probably reading all of this and giggling evily as we guess, flail, and debate about it.

If you are nice to him, he will send you cool stuff.

If he doesn't like you, he picks you up and breaks your spine over his leg while the other con goers watch in horror.

Don't want Cole as a companion .
If he is one, I'll get rid of him asap.
