I imagine the person he was, has sort of faded/whithered away, literally leaving a shadow in its place that utilizes blood magic to retake its form.

I think the opposite might actually be true. As the book progresses, Cole seems to become more "human". He remembers more of who he was; more human like traits pop up like guilt, morality, bravery, etc.

As for the blood magic, the hedgewitch theory Pharomonde proposes is possibly true. Considering how tragic his life was, it's not much of a stretch that his magic potential would channel itself into a way for him to hide from his abusive father. Whether it actually requires blood to manifest is beyond what we know though.

1.What you not getting is that he place an abolute concept on mages in the end, which is the worse thing to do with any group of people. This thing is the cause of the mage templar war. It's one thing to see a possible hazard with mages, it's another to lable every hazard of mage with it.
2. The issue with Rhy's was he was selflass, not selfish. He wanted to help others reguadless to what happen to himself and is a very open person to others feeling. What cause problem with him is how reckless he is about it.

no, just no.  He was so far from selfless he's on the other side of the continent.  He was reckless and totally selfish, doing as he pleased through the whole of the book without every once thinking about the consequences to others.  It starts right off tyhe bat with him slipping out of the circle on multiple occasions and then wondering why templars were getting really ticked off about it.

Cole really isn't that bad. People keep calling him a murderer, but they seem to forget that the Mages we were shown, who were killed by him, were evil mages. Seriously, the first Mage we read about that Cole kills, claims that she enjoyed burning the people alive in the farm. So if anything, he's actually doing a service to the Circle, by removing any threat to the other's livelihood via them being potentially amongst terrible people who could give them a bad name just by association.

If a templar had done this rather then Cole would would the response be i wonder?

Nope, trying to help someone else is far from selfish. That fact alone makeshim selfless. He's is reckless about it but he is not selfish.

Well, you try being cooped up in a tower all your life, barely being able to see what life is like outside of it, unless you're being watched the entire time.

He's an example of how little we really know about the Fade.

And that's what may make him so perfect as a companion, similar to how Legion added much more depth to the Geth.

Yes, I'd like the option to have him as a companion. And for the Inquisitor to be the only one that can see/talk to him.

And for him to 'disappear' (but not leave) if he and the Inquisitor disagreed too much. :)

I dunno about only the Inquisitor seeing him. That kinda defeats one of my favourite parts when travelling, party banter. I want to hear how others react to him too.
