Doom was ahead of it's time with that 2.5D format tbh.

Whoa Ken, you actually sound calm cool and collected and decidedly not homicidal here. Are you on something?
I have my more sane moments. Tonight must be a full moon or something.

Battlefield 2
Battlefield Bad Company 2
Hale CE
Halo 2
Half Life 2
Bioshock
CS 1.6
CSS
Unreal Tourney 04'
Battlefield 3
I am bias towards Battlefield. What can I say, they make the best MP shooters I've ever played. Except CS 1.6. That's probably the best.

Oh we all know Call of Doody will be in the top 10, would not surprise me if it's number 1. Just shows everyone that IGNs lists like always are to be taken with a grain of salt.
Call of Duty isn't as simple as we make it out to be.

On the PC.
The question is where do the most shooters sell? The Console Market. So if you look at who had the biggest impact Goldeneye is at the top. Maybe not number 1. But still in the top 10. You have to look at other factors that add up to best.
Even going this route I'm still not entirely convinced I would hand it to Goldeneye as having had the biggest impact.
Goldeneye showed others how to do console FPS right, and kicked things off for console FPS.
Halo: Combat Evolved is what set the standards for regenerating health, 2 weapon system, etc. and Halo 2 showed everybody how to do console FPS online multi-player right.
Taking from the PC, Half-Life showed everybody how to properly weave story and gameplay together in a FPS game, a concept which plenty FPS games still struggle with today and something that console FPS does draw from.
Wolfenstein kicked things off in general. You can argue that Goldeneye set the standard for console, but Goldeneye would not have existed if Wolfenstein and Doom did not popularize FPS on the PC first.
Goldeneye also has this weird thing where it's one of the few movie tie in games that isn't a terrible cash grab.

@ Cyonan. Not speaking of the point of sales.
But of interface, controls, multiplayer, splitscreen. Sure a number of others added these in but even the Makers of HALO CE admit that it influnced them. I wouldn't mind if HALO CE was number one though.

Call of Doody, the series that has been using the same engine since CoD2, has used the same assets many many many times including the same goddam building in many maps along with causing stagnation to the genre. Ya that's detailed all right.
You statement is meaningless. The fact that it reuses assets doesn't have anything to do with whether it is detailed or not.
And, Lohan, I'm afraid to look up Sara Jay...

Lets place bets well..Epoints or Internets at least of what will be number one, while I personally would like it to be Goldeneye or Doom I'm betting it will be one of these two
Halo CE
Call of Duty.
What else should be added?
Lets just build up to no more than 20 titiles, make a poll figure the odds on its result.

CE didn't have regenerating health, you had to use health packs. That came with Halo 2 or something else. It did get the right idea though, however if more FPS games were like it, I'd like the genre a whole lot more than I do now. Not even halo holds to that standard anymore, CE was too complicated or something, I'd bet most Halo games would be better if they'd been more like CE and not just gameplay wise. Story wise it also felt serious and mature, which is something that I don't get a feel when I play most Halo games, with some exceptions here and there.

It uses the same engine. Same. Same engine since 2005. That is not detail, that is laziness to cash in on the money cow that kiddies eat up.EntropicAngel wrote...
