Anybody want to take pity on the middle-aged and give me an idea how my computer fairs? I've really been worried about having to upgrade next year.

Windows 7 64-bit
Intel i5 2.3 GHz (2.7 with TurboBoost)
4 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M
2.7 GB Memory

I think you will be ok, assuming DA:I will have the same minimum requirements.

If 2.7 gb 'memory' is your available hard drive space, you'll probably need more than that. (I can't find a gtx 460m listed with 2.7 memory, if that's what you mean...)

He's probably referring to disk space. 2.7 GB is an unusual value.

He's likely referring to what he thinks his is video RAM because the 460M displays system memory as video memory. Unfortuntaely, it isn't anywhere near that high in practice.

Don't forget PinkDiamondstl, eBay can get you a pretty spiffy system for a few hundred. It may need a vid card upgrade and you'd have to be careful about power but sure.

My laptop has a 650M and I think that's a little better than a 460M IIRC.  I can play Skyrim,Tomb Raider, Arkham City with the graphics up pretty high.  Not maxed out but pretty high. I have a quadcore though.  I think you'll be able to run the game, maybe somewhere around medium settings.  I'm no expert though.

mine can handle minimum, but not recommended. I could play I guess with low graphics on. Unless by that time my PC has a nervous breakdown and gets replaced.

If that's the case then the 460m's actual 1.5 memory is still enough for the minimum requirements, so they should be good.

My computer is not yet ready. That being said I can run Skyrim on maximum settings without any lag. But I'm afraid I won't be able to run Inquisition past medium settings. Anyway, Inquisition is likely one of my last PC games with the PS4 coming.

Because it is different and was hated because of that. Like the first white people that found the african tribes.

The minimum requirements are as I expected because of the game being released on the older consoles. I am just not really sure why Windows 8 would be the only recommended OS.

It's utter crap. Micro$oft added crap that is a total waste of space just to collect more money off of the consumers with this terrible upgrade.

here's what i've got:

Windows 7 64-bit
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E4500 2.20GHz
4 GB RAM
Asus Radeon HD 4890 (this fun thing with a horsie on it!)
407 GB free of 931 GB disk space

i'm planning on packing as much ram as i can into it (16gb i believe) but since its only a dual core im not sure if i want to try and replace the processor or just build a new rig altogether if i'm gonna go to the trouble of getting a high end processor for an outdated machine.

Same here. Companies have been pretty good lately at optimizing for lower end computers so I don't think I'll worry too much about it.

Unless, of course, my system dies. Then I'll put money down for a much better computer :P

Third-party software manufacturers almost always recommend the latest iteration of an OS as a matter of course.  There's nothing about a game like this that would mandate upgrading to Win 8, IMHO.

More ram is probably not going to make a big impact for you.  Your processor will be the limiting factor.

I have the recommended except for only 2G of video Ram. So, I should really be all set.

i always seem to come up short in that department sadly. my dad's the one who built this thing and he's got friends sending parts his way all the time so i'll see if he knows anyone willing to part with a decent processor for cheaper than itd take to actually buy one new.
