Well, it seems like Dragon Age Inquisition will be really demanding from PC's...

Third-party software manufacturers almost always recommend the latest iteration of an OS as a matter of course.  There's nothing about a game like this that would mandate upgrading to Win 8, IMHO.

Plus there is hardly any difference between 7 and 8 except for the GUI interface.   If you 7 I wouldn't bother ever upgrading to 8.

i always seem to come up short in that department sadly. my dad's the one who built this thing and he's got friends sending parts his way all the time so i'll see if he knows anyone willing to part with a decent processor for cheaper than itd take to actually buy one new.

Putting a new chip in is certainly possible... It all depends on your motherboard.  Of course, the game is a ways off, and we haven't actually seen the official specs yet.  So waiting and seeing is the best course for the foreseeable future.

id have to ask the old man about the motherboard, i'm not sure. i'm not as familiar with this thing as i was with my older one (which makes sense because i had my old pc for 11 years before i finally retired it). but even if i build a new rig (which i undoubtedly will because i like fancy computers) i'll probably cannibalize it for parts and steal its case and monitor anyways. so i guess it boils down to whether or not the motherboard makes it worth upgrading or not.

It probably won't. Intel is upgrading their chipsets at a frightful rate...

thought so. i highly doubt i'd be able to get something extremely high end, but i'm hoping to put together a good solid gaming rig that'll last me a while.

Recommended specs sound close (on paper) to the Next-Gen consoles which I imagine Frostbite 3 was designed around.

I heard Battlefield 4 looks and plays horribly on PS4 though, so who knows?

No problems here either. I just built a watercooled, dual GTX680 beast this January.

So for me it'll just be a question of how it plays at the highest resolutions with everything dialed to the max...

well i might come of as sounding like some rich dandy, but:

if you can't afford to play on a PC (which IMHO is the better experience) then buy a console...(my own computer is 1,5 years old now and i just put in a new graphics-accelerator, so i am pretty sure the thing can handle 2014's games at max details, and after 2014 (or during it?) i will upgrade again anyway (i need a PC to cut, render and otherwise process my videos anyway, so my current one will do that and i will play on the new one then))

greetings LAX
ps: demanding? - except for the graphics stuff (and the recommended RAM) my old computer (build 2008!) could handle that!
pps: next gen-consoles - what a joke, my computer beats them all soundly (if what i read about their hardware is true!)...even my old one could have, with a state of the art graphics-card and some RAM...it's kind of cheap upgrading the hardware in the new devices so little IMHO!

It can't be demanding cause they will release it on an older console generation. For better or worse.

I'm poor as dirt atm, but I'll get a new pc next summer, when the parts needed to play the game on max graphics won't be as expansive anymore.

My video card (GTX 570) is starting to show its age in some games but I might wait for the GTX 870, instead of getting a 770 now. I'm not planning to upgrade anything else for a while.

Windows 7 64-bit
Intel Core i7-920
6 GB RAM

Battlefield 4 is being released on Older Console generations as well.

We'll see if Frostbite 3 truly is a wonderously scaleable engine... Usually cross gen suck for everyone. (At least visually)

explain to me why I need minimum 4gb of ram when I've never seen any game that uses more than 1.3 gb.

It's not like I'll be running photoshop while playing. Nowadays specs look bloated. Not only DA:I, but many others too.

Good question actually. Maybe because Windows XP is being phased out as a supported OS...

Vista, Seven and Eight usually post twice the memory requirements on-box as XP... but I'm just shooting blindly here.

Even I have 4gb of memory though, and I have to start my PC with a handcrank.

My laptop can just cover that.

I think the strongest I play at the moment is Skyrim on max + texture mods.

I could be remembering my OS's incorrectly, but I believe Windows XP doesn't support DirectX 11 and its support for 64bit processors isn't the greatest and with a 32bit processor it won't recognize more then 4gb of RAM.

I wouldn't judge DA:I on the battlefield 4 recommended specs...if you beat the minimum, I'm 100% sure, you will have no problem with DA:I

Remember, the reason why BF4 recommended is so high is because of this

I seriously doubt we as players are going to have to worry about dealing with THAT much effects running and the fact that there are 63 other players running around...

Hmm, looks like I need to retire my GTX 570s. I was thinking of getting the GTX 780, but it's a... wee bit expensive. :? I wonder how it would handle DA:I.

Yeah people shouldn't worry too much about upgrading now. Lots of new tech will be released before DAI comes out. 3GB of graphic memory is pretty huge though, I don't think I've ever seen a game with that recommendation.

It gets me excited just thinking about running DAI at 2560x1440.

Edit - @Amphibian, you should wait till the 8xx series cards from nvidia, they will likely be out before DAI is. This is what I am doing myself.

Maybe but we can't be sure anything before see requirements for DAI.

and as Mike said:

"On gen four you’ll see far better graphics and, more importantly, a much more immersive world. It’s a lot richer, and there’s more depth to it. We can put more things on screen. There are more NPCs. There is more life to the world. That, while a subtle thing, really does over time build up into quite a strong connection to the game compared to the other gen three platforms.

The spell visual effects are incredible on the gen four and high-end PC. On gen three they will be much lower fidelity. Seeing Vivienne bringing up that big fire storm is brilliant on gen four and high-end PC. That’s the kind of stuff that will make this a gen four experience.”

That why I collect money as would like to play DAI on higher settings than low/medium

GTX 780 overclocked is close to its big brother Titan (which is the fastest single gpu card on the market). If you are talking 1080p at 1920 by 1080, then the card would eat this game and look for more in it's sleep.
