The trailer focuses squarely on the battles and Shepard. It doesn't really make a difference if it's Kaidan or Ashley there, but I think Ashley is put in there to be contrast to the default Shepard, who is generally depicted as male.
Hm... Makes sense. And she's one of the strongest and most military of all ME females aside from soldier/infiltrator Femshep, so she's a good way to show that ME has strong female roles too.

It does make Priority: Earth all the drabber to play though. I would've loved to fight an entire swarm of husks and have a lot of soldiers somewhere in the backdrop fighting as well, though I imagine that this would no doubt be constrained by the system's resources.
Even without watching the trailer, it's probably what we all expected Priority:Earth to be like before we actually got to that part.

Silly, Kaiser, you know every soldier that Shepard walks near dies. Those turians on Menae got lucky.
Well a certain STG team survives Virmire if you help them out, so this isn't a rule.

Thinking about that, I wish that I was able to actually defend small pockets of soldiers here and there while crossing no-man's land. Perhaps reviving a few as I go. I know you kind of do this at some point when you take out the marauders on turrets and ravagers in the building, but it's just not the same. This is kind of what you can do when you play Omega. Many might not notice, but there are a number of injured turians lying about here and there during some parts of the mission that you can help before you leave. It would've been nice to be able to encounter other soldiers that are actually fighting that you can save somehow.

No. I won't get the full experience right now, I'm stuck with crappy built in speakers on my computer because my 5 month old kitten chewed through my headphones. I'll wait till I have a new pair before that... Haven't been able to listen to any music either thanks to this.
Watch. Now. You don't need headphones lol

You know, I might actually let Ashley reach ME3 one more time now. Mostly because of Citadel DLC, I've heard that actually somewhat repaired her character and I could use a bit of a shakeup on my next playthrough.

Salarians are a scientific powerhouse in the galaxy. Not likely that they'd lose their seat in galactic government.
Seriously. If they lost their seat, the Salarians would hit EVERY SPECIES with a genophage... And no one but Salarians are smart enough to even be able to cure it. Don't screw with the geniuses of the galaxy, it won't end well.
With their Reapercode the Geth could probably design a cure in seconds....
You would just have to slip through all the Salarian blockades and beg the Geth for help... And then hear whatever they want in return for fixing the mess created by Organics...

The Salarians shouldn't be kicked. The Salarian Councillor gave me his fleet, and Kirrahe offered his assistance.
The Salarians are the genuises too, wouldn't want to mess with them.
Did I mention Kirrahe? I love Salarians
Kirrahe abandoned Kaiden (I can NEVER sacrifice Ashley) to die, and the rest of his kind follow a b!tch who won't help unless I stab one of my best friends in the back.

What Geth?
I'm going to take a wild guess that aside from destroy being the likeliest to canonize in a sequel, there's going to be a retcon to explain the survival of some of the geth. Look at the Collectors. We were led to believe that assaulting the Collector base would eradicate them once and for all. Even Javik has a conversation about how they had to be destroyed, and that it was an act of mercy. Lol, nope! There are awakened Collectors in the rule-of-cool multiplayer ensemble. Geth will likely be in whatever multiplayer they create for the next game.

The design of the Virmire decision was always kind of off. Nowadays, I just have the one that dies handle the bomb at the end so it makes more sense that both the VS and Kirrahe's team are all accounted for.

I'm assuming the trailer focuses on Ashley, and actually hints at the romance with her being the canon for that trailer? If so, I don't know if I want to see it. I never let Ashley reach ME3 anymore, it damages her character too much (whereas Kaidan is actually improved).
I agree. My view of Kaidan really improved with ME3, whereas my view of Ash really worsened. I think Ash was more or less ruined in ME3.
