I'm on the fight where I team up with Avernus and try to kill Sophia.  I run into a problem here though, and I feel I should mention I'm playing on hard..  The retard keeps winding up some sort of AoE nuke and obliterating my team.  I have completed the fight a couple times, but not without him destroying 2-3 of my people.  Every now and then all 4 of us die cause she won't attack Avernus and have him tank for a bit while my ranged people chip away at her. Normally this is  not a terrible thing, but immediately after he expects me to fend off waves of demons with no down-time to recover.  One time he even managed to kill my entire team.  I tried to buy as many health pots as I could before coming here, but I'm getting low now and it seems to be a massive waste of pots to have to use them all before the creep waves even show because my ally (who I can't control) decided I didn't need health anymore.

I've even tried not engaging first and let Avernus get off a nuke, eat some health loss, and let him tank.  No go, she ignored him and just followed me around as I desperately tried to get away from Captain Teamkiller.

I think i saved myself into a corner. I finally got passed Avernus trying to kill my team, and did it with only 1 or so hits of team damage. The problem now is that I'm somehow supposed to fend off 5 waves (so about 20 or so) demons and a boss with no down time. I don't have enough health pots to pull this off. I got to the boss once, but my tank died the wave before when one mob was left with half health. I just don't see this as possible at my current level. Which makes me wonder why I was allowed to go in teh first place.

uh.. well the way my story went was.. i killed sophia alone in her room (with the 4 things she spawned) and that fight was not too hard, then went over to avernus' tower and he came back to seal the rift. During that fight i basically ran like a little girl with whatever char had aggro while raned damage took them down. if aggro switched, then i switched chars and ran some more. at the end of him closing the rift, it was me (elf ranger) and the last boss going toe to toe. I think something was bugged because she was only hitting me for like 7 dmg and i was missing like 80% of my shots at point blank range, but eventually i killed her. 3 of the 4 members of my team died though =( was a hard fight!

Is that the room you are talking about? the one with the 4 summoning circles ont he ground and the mirror in the corner surrounded by a purple haze?

That would be the room. The most trouble is the 3rd wave. They just seem to absolutely melt my tank. I was just considering a "run around like a little girl" strategy, will see if that works. The boss didn't seem too hard.Morrigan  and Leliana got her to half health on their own, and Leliana is using a crossbow with the same problem you had of missing 80% of the time.

"The most trouble is the 3rd wave"

Try using electricity based attacks on the ash demons, it turns them to .. ash

ashes are easy. 2, max3 hits and they're gone. tank focuses on one, mage on the other, couple of secs and it's toe to toe with the small guys.

Ash Demons are also super weak to Cold damage. Since ya get that Winter's Breath from fighting the Rage Abomination on your way up, it's really good for sticking it to the lesser Rage Demons and Ash Wraiths. That staff's also brutal if ya give it to Morrigan on top of all her other Cold damage bonuses.

Dragonbone, req. 34 Magic

+25% cold resist

+15% cold damage

Radiates Cold (staff attacks do Cold damage)

Remember to ask Sophia for a reward, think she gives 8 gold or something from the hidden stash.

I ran into the same problem with Avernus nuking my party to hell whilst fighting Sophia, then forcibly dragging me to seal the rift with three of my party members fresh out Unconscious Avenue.

Whoever thought making him cast Fireball in a small room was a good idea needs to be hit repeatedly with a very large stick.

Well, considering Avernus' history, should you be surprised that he's a danger to himself and his allies? Isn't that the problem with him to begin with? Why would he change now? didn't he kill his own allies and use grey warden's as test subjects? I say, nuke him.

FWIW, I brought him back and Sophia did fight him, I think, but yeah, he rained fire on us all, so from now on, he doesn't make it back. Sophia can close the rip just as well as he can.

Heh. I got Sophie to close the rift before we went to see Avernus (thus doing the demons without him around, sounds like a good option!), then killed her after seeing him.

The demon waves are tough... lost Morrigan during the last one, then lost Shale during the desire demon fight (cone of cold is so overpowered, and it's less fun on mobs you've never fought before than it is on Morrigan) and duked it out with me and Sten for the last 60% or so of the desire demon's health bar.
