What bothered me about EDI is that she was basically just like "Oh, I've got a body, I could kill reapers in person! Oh, and I suppose romance Joker."

I'd much rather have the encouragement happen BEFORE she gets a body. Then maybe have her ask you to get some rather esoteric projection equipment and ultimately manifest a fully tactile holographic body because she's in a relationship with him, not get into a relationship (get it? Ship?) because she happened to become sexy.

Then you could have her fight with you if/when the Normandy gets invaded by whatever.

As for the squick factor or relationships with aliens...honestly, I don't get it. Nobody who uses the internet at all should get it either, really. Every day, we interact with dozens of people we cannot see or interact with in any way other than through our computers. We befriend them, we form relationships with them, some people even fall in love with them. And yet, we have no idea what's really on the other side of the screen. They could be male or female, fat or skinny, healthy or on their deathbed, or a Turian or Quarian or Krogan or Salarian.

Ultimately, isn't that what matters? Essentially our bodies are just shells we load our consciousness into, and while we might find one shell more attractive than the other, it's the core memory that really matters.

Joker and EDI in a relationship could have raised some interesting questions about organics and synthetics coexisting.

A pity it was handled in such a junior high level of maturity.

Maybe we don't like EDI because she is a regressive character who was made "attractive" in a shallow attempt to boost her popularity.

I agree with this.  To me it isn't that surprising that Joker would develop feelings for EDI but for it to have them back isn't believable.  Now would Joker still feel the same if EDI had been built as a Brad Pitt robot with a man voice?  I highly doubt it so I think sexbot has some merit as well.

I would not be surprised if a nice looking woman asked Joker out, he would forget about the robot.

I thought Jack's ME2 romance arc is the only one without sex.

And if you want to read a Talimancer's story that has Kasumi and Garrus becoming a couple, read ArchReaperN7's "novel series". It starts with Enigma, and he is currently on Holocaust.

He was opposed to the idea of hooking up with FemShep on the basis that she was his commanding officer.

He may of been put off by femshep being so direct like she was and also didn't want to hurt the friendship he has with her.

Joker was yet another Alliance officer who made Shepard look intelligent. Let's look at some characters:

1. Tali was responsible for Shepard becoming a Spectre and saving the galaxy. Was it Shepard's visions that saved the galaxy? No. It was Tali's irrefutable evidence. If it wasn't for Tali the galaxy would have been reaper chow.

2. Joker on the other hand, overestimated his abilities in the face of disaster, refused to abandon the Normandy forcing Shepard to rescue him and get killed.

3. Joker never apologizes for it, but like the other dumb ass, pretends it never happened. I think Joker may be feeling guilty, but after losing the Catalyst on Thessia decides to pout about other things if Shepard makes a comment about the war.

Of course things like this are difficult to convey in a game. Tali is the most intelligent character of the lot.

4. EDI sent Joker's pr0n collection to The Illusive Man. She knows what Joker is into.

Depends on your skill with the editor. I'm quite pleased with how mine turn out.
They actually look like real people.

i think while it can be reasonably pathetic for Joker to like an robot, it is at least not as sick as he liking children or beasts.

I mean at least EDI can give intelligent response unlike the real sex toys/dolls.

Joker is an adult. He can watch porn and then get extremely aroused by the blatantly obvious cameltoe.

>mfw I get on this thread and see posts of David being responded to, almost brings a tear to the eye

Those are old posts before David was overtaken by his own douchebaggery.

David became Bob, Bob got banned

BSN couldn't handle his heroism.

Not unless EDI is capable of doing things that no organic female could. Things that would keep you up at night and make you lose faith in humanity.

We've fought a millennium's worth of cultural warfare for the right to bang what you want to bang. Sure it's weird, but who cares? And who here isn't going to bang a sexbot that looks like Angelina Jolie from that crappy 90's Hackers movie when they are 86 years old?

I'm sure that's what Joker thought before plugging in the overlord. He thought he would spend all day computing pi, but in the end, it was altogether different.

Potential robosexuals are already out there. The things that hold them back are the fact that technology has not yet caught up with their desires, and the initial cost would be prohibitive.

Joker could simply have developed feeling for EDI without an oversexualized physical form.

Love, even romantic love =/=sex necesarilly.

Unfortunately, the blatantly oversexualized appearance of the fembot EDI took over undermined all that.   What could have been a serious, thoughtful examination on the potential for coexistence between organic and synthetic life turned into an adolecent joke.
